You could take out the hard drive, buy an enclosure and make it an external hard drive.

ebay has a good market for spare parts. and i've seen bricked ps3's go for over $100.00. someone out their needs a new blu-ray eye so i'd try to sell it. any ammount you could get would beat throwing out a $600.00 investment

not to high jack ur thread. bhut last i made a thread. and think i got the yellow light of death. do you know more about it? does the light stay yellow? my 60 gig ps3 shut off on its own. but the red light was blinking. i shut it off from the back then tried to eject my disc. the light came up green for a second and my ps3 tried to eject the disc but a yellowish white light came on for a half second. then it starting to blink red again. is that the yellow light of death or can my ps3 be saved?

i read on ps.com that gamestop you gives you 90 dollars store credit towards a ps3 slim. thats what i might do rather then sell some poor guy on ebay a dead ps3.

Should have not had anyone but Sony fix it. Sony will never repair a system if it has ever been taken apart or worked on by another company. I was told this directly by Sony when calling in about my son's 60 gig that needs fixed.

His problem is most likely that another company (not sony) "fixed" his. Don't be worried to get your system fixed if doing so by Sony themselves.

ok thanks. but it costs 150 bucks for them to fix it. plus i gotta pay shipping both ways. and ps3 isnt small or lite. also i will only a 90 day warrenty. so i think it might be better to wait till new ps3s are 199 or lower.

Sony told me they would pay for shipping. They send you a box with a return shipping label.
