Have you had problems with your PS3?

So I've been browsing site to site, forum to forum, and I've realized that a good number PS3 owners are having or had problems with their PS3s. So I was wondering if anyone in here have had problems.

If you voted YES, please feel free to state what happened, what sku do you have, when did you get your PS3, and what did you do to get a fix?

yes my ps3 would not load games so i sent it back to sony and got another one but my 2nd one ive had no problems yet

1) Every once in a while my PS3 just freezes while I'm in the middle of a game and I have to reboot it.

2) Sometimes the controls don't respond when I turn it on. Totally weird but haven't had any MAJOR (Thank God!)

its was a time when my PS3 stop reading disc. so im all like WTF?! I kept trying with every other game, but nothing so thats when i got piss...... but the next day i called sony and they told me that i had to send it to them and they fixed it for free got it back the next 2 weeks and there i was all happy and crap playing COD4. :D CrazyAl92

I had a few lock ups due to overheating before I started using an external cooling solution. Once I started using cooling though I have had zero problems. When I used to have the 60gb model (which I miss) I never had any problems - but the new models are obviously made cheaper. i now have an 80gb and the first time it locked up I inspected it and to my horror found that it has NO fans in the rear of the console...

that's a horrible way for SONY to cut costs if you ask me.

Anyway the new Nyko TS series coolers are fantastic and I've had no problems since I started using one.

one time i had it freeze after quiting a psn store game. so no problems really. 60gb purchased 10/07

my blu ray drive laser had problems

i got my 60gb ps3 in oct 07 for $650 from mumbai...two months later i started getting disc reading problems and the error code - 8001054....i took it to sony and they said they'll give me a NEW one...it took them over a month....and they gave me a previously USED(..and repaired for some problem unknown to me)ps3....i had found existing network settings on it,but decided not to complain as it was working fine and i was over a month without it....they did not renew or extend the warranty either(I DONT KNOW IF THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO)....now one year after that....im getting the same problem....now,what sony has to say is that they cannot even repair this model....i cannot understand why(i know the 60gb model is discontinued)....they are willing to give me a 50% discount on a "new model"....the representative was unclear abt which model she was talking abt....i was not interested in a new model cause even the 80gig model has the issue with this same error code....even though i like it soo much,i dont feel the need to pay for a new model even if it is half price..everytime this happens.

i was wondering if anybody new abt the sony policy or have had a similar problem...and what they did about it....also....why doesnt sony do something about this error code?....it seems like many people have it...ive got it twice in a span of 1 year.i also have come to understand that their policy is to give a refurbished ps3 if there's a problem...thats ok...some communication issues wit the representative,we have idiots or people who think they're too smart as representatives i guess...no problem for sony....problem for me

I got my 60GB a few months after launch. A month ago, my PS3 started turning itself off. Every time it would turn off sooner and sooner until it wouldn't turn on anymore. I had to ship it in and pay $160 for a new (thankfully also 60GB PS3) and lost all my data. They did ship it back very quickly, though, but for $160 I'd expect nothing less. So never let it be said that the PS3 is impervious to hardware failure... that's what the yellow light means, I believe.

I think the problem was that my entertainment center made it too hot. I put it on a lower shelf, and now all the heat goes to the top teir, leaving the PS3 significantly cooler. That's my tip of the day... don't put your entertainment center's top level!

But i do start to feel a little bit anxious. There was this show here in holland claiming all blu-ray lasers will burn out after 1.5 year or so. Trendwatchers made this statement saying it was due to 'new technology problems' or how they say in holland "kinderschoenen" (means childshoes). Simply because the technology is still young it may have problems that occur later in it's life-cycle. I don't really believe this because it's a really bold statement to make and there are a lot of people out there who had their ps3's for 2 years without reporting any serious problems.
