I've recently bought a 40G playstation and I've noticed that the hard drive space is 25 G, even when I only have 5G of stuff intalled.

Is this normal?

40G harddrive = 37GB hard drive space available. Blame the HD manufacturers cuz this ain't SONY's fault.

I guess you have a little bit more than 5G stuff though.

But back to your question, yes, this is normal.

The harddrive needs space for its operating system and the sony files that allow it to play games and the such. This is the same for computer harddrives if you've ever looked. If you ever get an external harddrive and look at it, it is never exactly what its supposed to be ebcause operating system files need to be installed.

Any 40gb harddrive is really only 36gb, and theres bit for the OS and stuff, and demos are bigger then what you download, because what you download is compressed and they become bigger when uncompressed and installed. (like a 800mb demo compressed takes up 1.3gb space uncompressed or something like that)
