With FF13 coming out soon, i thought it would be good to see which classic FF game is better.

I have already played 7 over the summer and loved it. This summer, i'm going to play 10 and hopefully 8. And 13 im gonna play in march ;)

So, for all you FF buffs out there, which classic PS1 FF game do you think is better?

I have both . I love both . the newer incarnations fail compared to these two beauties, especially back in 1998 . The combat systemS in bothGAMES were incredible, though I liked the materia system from 7 just a little more then the draw system from 8 (just a little) . Storywise, FF8 was the better game in my opinion, although part 7 had better characters . FF8 had better graphics and better music, better summon magic and the junction system was nice too . Soo ...if I have to choose one, it's FF8 .

The guy is probably talking about what's avalible for the Playstation Network right now. I've only played 7 and only bought 7. I don't know how VIII is.

I'll have to say 7. I loved 8 and 9, really enjoyed 10 and 12, and have played some of the older FF's, but 7 just sticks out in my mind as the best. No bad guy was just pure evil like Sephiroth, each story was moving in its own way, but I guess 7 touched me a different way than the others. The game mechanics were smooth and solid, easy to grasp but complex enough to make strategy a key. I just love that damn game.

So far, FFVIII, and I'm only on the second disc.

I like the relationship developing between Rinoa and Squall, where as the one between Tifa and Cloud was almost nonexistent due in part to Aerith.

Outta those, I guess Final Fantasy VII.

Best PS1 FF game though? Definitely IX. ;)

I loved VII when I beat it so many years ago back on the PSone, and I still love it to this day. To this day it remains my favorite JRPG of all time.

VIII, however, I never could get into; it just failed to grab me the way VII did. I hope to give it another try some day, though.

I'd have to say FF8. The graphics were good (PSone good...). The story was good. Soundtrack was good (I use the opening music as my mobile ringtone... and "Eyes on me" was beautiful...). The characters were likeable. Villains had a background history to their motives.

FF8 just wasn't as fun; it was kind of boring and I disliked the Junction system. "Whatever..."

FF8 is much, much better in my opinion. I was never able to get into FF7, but I've played FF8 through to completion a half-dozen times.

VIIII had more depth. For it dared to talk about the human persona in a way most would just file under "emo" or something like that. The gamers here are mostly men after all. How many would admit that some of the contradicting feelings these characters represented are actual ones teens go through and many adults go through? :P

Final Fantasy 9 is the best Final Fantasy. However between 7 and 8 I'd have to say 7 wins hands down. 8 had a decent story, but the Junction and Draw system killed it for me.

I got my copy of Final Fantasy VII back in 2004, so I'm going to side with that. I've played a little bit of Final fantasy VIII, but really couldn't get into it. If anyone has seen SpoonyExperiment's ten part review on FFVIII, you can see why it's impossible to take the game seriously haha

jimkabrhel

I'd go with FF7, the materia system is way better than the draw system.

And i also liked more the characters and historyline in 7 more than 8.

But if you can, play both.

------------

jimkabrhel, i didnt quoted you because what you said, i just quoted you to say... i love your sig. :)

FF9 isn't a classic PS1 FF? Weird.

Meh. I think VII is better than VIII so I guess I'll vote for that.

This... is... hilarious.

I dont agree with him that the customization and junction system is hard in any way. Needed like 5 mins to get it right the 1st time. And i dont agree with him in other aspects.

But i do agree with the draw system (i knw there are other ways, and so on... but the draw system per se is horrible) and the character description he uses... and yeah, Quistis is the most and only awesome character in ff8.. by far :) ... and Robin Williams... i mean, Cid.

I still like it, but not as much as FF6, 7 or 9

As someone with pretty much zero rpg experience, I'd like to branch out and try one of the most classic video game titles of all-time (Final Fantasy). I didn't even play Zelda when it was huge. I definitely want to give an RPG a try, I've been eyeing up the next gen ones such as Mass Effect 2, Fallout 3, Dragon Age, or Oblivion. I'm thinking that I should probably give a newer title run..

What would you recommend I do?

I liked 7, but 8 was so much more fun, I agree that the draw system wasnt the best choice, but it works. I really loved the card game which added heaps of hours to the game. Instead of the crap they will shovel to us in 13, I'd like to see a final fantasy made using 8's system, but with 4 people in a group, the level up system of 10 and blitzball and card game. I would be a very happy man.

Oh man that was gold. I was thinking of getting ff8 on the psn to try again since I never finished it. But after watching that, I'm reminded of why I left off without finishing it. I'll re-think my purchase again.

Well, actually SNES...

But there was a remake with cinematic videos on the PS1.

Best history of all FF indeed and a must play I'd dare say.

Im on disc 3 with FF8 i used to love this game. Even though 7 is a great game i really think i like FF8 more. To me the story was a little more interesting personally and i enjoyed the characters more. ONLY thing i dont like about 8 is drawing magic from enemies it can get a little annoying other than that its great. plus the Gunblade is one of the coolest weapons!.

I think 7 is the only one that I have not played. FF8 was ok, it had some terrible story moments and every now and then would have horrible dialogue though. 6 and 9 have been my favorite in the series.
