Well I'm expecting my 360 to RROD soon (had it since 2006) and if it does I'll leave Microsoft and carry on with Sony; Does the PS3 overheat like the 360? Also what PS3 types are there? (10gb,20gb ect) and is the Playstation 3 backwards compatible?

If I were you, dont switch from a 360 to a PS3. From a PS3/360 to a Wii, I understand cause Wii is different. From a PS3 to a 360 I understand cause the library is better on 360. I have all next-gen consoles and I play 360 the most, but I love playing PS3 for online since its free. But trust me, you dont need to make a switch in between those consoles.

^^^ don't listen to him. No the PS3 doesn't have any problems like rrod. In fact, its estimated failure rate is at .002% or something really low. THe online is free and while it doesn't have all the features that the 360 onlinedoes, there is no lag and it is great service all the same.

If you want backwards compatibility, get the 80gb PS3. It is BC with most games. the 40gb has no Bc at all so you should avoid that one. If you want the best Ps3, you could try and find a 60gb PS3. However these were discontinued but i'm sure there are still a few around.

no' ps3 gets hot, but it doest overheat. if it does, it will just shut off until it cools down.

i have a 360 and ps3 aswell and i have to agree that the 360's library is marginaly better, but i like how smooth and quiet my ps3 is so thats my prefered console. plus free online = WIN.

I can't answer the overheating but here's what I know.

PS3 types...

20 GB & 60 GB. They are not available anymore. They have pretty much full backwards compatibility and came out at launch.

40 GB & 80 GB. The 40 GB can play PS1 games, but not PS2. The 80 GB I hear has about 85% backwards compatibility. It is a harder model to find since it is only being bundled with Metal Gear Solid 4 right now and I'm not sure if they are selling then with just the console.

Hope this helped.

From what I've noticed, the Playstation 3 generates a lot more heat than the 360, that being said, the PS3 has a much better cooling solution so the heat really isn't a problem unless it starts to affect the temperature of the room. Also, the PS3 can get extremely loud if it has to ramp the fan up to 100%, it generally only does this during extended play session or watching movies, and it normally doesn't keep the fan ramped up long.

As far as flavors for the PS3, you have the 20 GB (discontinued), 40 GB (easiest to find), 60 GB (discontinued) and the 80 GB which has to be bought in a bundle but that's not all that bad since MGS4 is a must have if you're getting a PS3 and it includes the Dual Shock 3. As far as BC goes, I can't keep up anymore. The 2 discontinued models have the emotion engine built in, the 40 GB has no support I believe and the 80 GB has software emulation. From what I've seen of PS2 games on the PS3, you can tell a big difference between the looks coming from a PS2 and the PS3, the PS2 being notably better looking in my opinion.

The 60 GB and 80 GB are the only ones with the multi-card readers for memory sticks. I've found them to be pretty handy, but not something that I would have to have. Just wrote all of this off the top of my head, there may have been changes at some point that I don't know of since I havn't done any research on them since I purchaced one.

For the most part no it doesnt. It has a very slight rate as ive heard. Personally I find that if you follow the instructions everything will run fine. Give it some space a bout 1 ft across all sides..

You will be good.

Well apparently they did some serious heating test with the ps3 which it passed quite nicely and the worst of the tests was shutting it insside a steam bath for a few hours, so, well i doubt the ps3 has any serious heating issues ;)

I have a 60 gig that I never turn off anymore and the fan hardly ever kicks in above the second speed, most of the time it runs at the lowest speed. As for the best PS3 that would be the 60 gig NTSC version because it has the emotion engine chip just like the PS2, I think the 20 gig also had the same hardware but it didn't have the card readers or wifi built in. The 80 gig and the 60 gig PAL used software emulation for the emotion engine chip in these versions. The 40 gig is a very stripped down version with no card readers and all the hardware was removed that could allow PS2 games to be played on this console even with software emulation. There may be some downloadable games at some time from PSN that people could purchase and play on the 40 gig, this is just a rumor for now.

If you just keep your PS3 in a well ventillated area it will be fine, and nothing bad can happen. The versions that are avaible now are only the 40GB models and some 80 GB MSG4 Bundles. 60 GB are discontinued as are the 20 GB.

There are no overheating problems with the PS3.
