I dont see what the problem with gs is but i think that RE5 was much better than an 8.5 if any thing it was a flat out 10 to me, but its all opinion.

That's the thing. Its all based on opinion. The games are rated by individual reviewers at GS. The guy who rated RE5 thought it deserved an 8.5. There may be another reviewer there who would have given it a ten. So unless you want to base your view of a game on one person's rating the numbers really don't mean much. I, personally, would have given it a 7.

really? I don't think it would be a rating based on 1 person at Gamespot. I would have thought that a group would get together and decide.
i think it would have been better of it got a 9, the game was fun i played the whole game online co-op with one of my friends for 3 days, it was fun and hope more games dose the same thing
RE5 easily deserves a 9.5, its that good of a good game. The reason I see that it recieved an 8.5 is because Capcom took the gameplay and changed it a bit by adding co-op in every single level and also its new dynamic inventory system, maybe that is what made reviewers think a bit more about the game and it's minor flaws, not that i said minor meaning it wasn't much to take away 1.5 points.

2.5? Better redo your calculation .. ;)
personally i believe no game deserves higher than an 8..
10 means perfect which no game is..
9 means excellent (or near perfect) which i can never justify giving a game..
really i think this rating system sucks..
i thought resident evil 5 was a good game, mainly because i had fun with cooperative..
i suggest people don't get caught up on scores of games..

I agree with you that no game can be perfect buta lot of games deserve 9
Was the first RE game I bought, thought it was poor. The story was SO predictable, I knew where every boss fight was and I knew who the mysterious person in the suit was * from a certain point quite early on in the game*. I expected more gore and more scares. Daylight gives totally the wrong atmospere. The game is made 100x harder with Sheva, unless you have a friend to play the whole game with you.
There were few parts of the game I liked, but I did like the end simpley because you hit a lot of buttons.I did like the rewards you got for doing the extra things, such as the firgurines and the filters to change the look of the game. The video clips were good too when you had to interact by pressing certain buttons.
I havn't been on multiplayer yet, because I just don't want to play it.
So, no I not think this game deserved a 8.5 rating, because it was not QUOTE FROM ADVERT "A fear you can't forget" I forgot and left the game quite quickly. At best it deserved a 6. To me it was just another medocre zombie game. The in-game rewards helped a bit.
yea it deserves an 8.5 because the controls are annoying and the AI sucks. Not to mention the graphics arn't that great. while the main characters look good, the zombie character models look almost as bad as oblivion characters. pluss the overall atmossphere of the game is lacking.
it still a good game but nowhere near 9 worthy
I thought maybe an 7.5, it was by far not the worst game I have played. I thoughtit was pretty good, not the worst, buta far stray from the first two..
DMC?? I dont even know how those games are still going....
the were no scares.thrills, good weaponry, movement was slow, and the environment was not that good,so a 7.5 to 8 would be fair
I give it a 7 so far which I find generous for a game that I don't feel the need to play exhaustively from start to finish. Especially one as short as RE5 apparently is.
I'd rate it higher if I care more because it actually is quite fun but:
I practically only played MGS4 untill I finished it. I think it deserves a 9 (which is also generous for a game that could be improved by cutting out an hour of dialog. RE5 does'nt feel nearly as urgent....
It's just a bit too shooty which poses two problems.
1: As far as shooters go, there's better ones than RE5
2: I've had my fill of shooter for the next year or 8 already...
I agree with the people who say this game should be higherratedthan a 8.5. I almost passed on RE5 do to to the less than great scores iv seen, plus i thought haveing a AI partner forced on me was going to suck. but as it turns out i love it. Sheva's AI is great, the SP is long with a good story. the game play is great ect. i think its a 9.0 at the least if not a 9.5.And unlike some people i have zero issue with the controls. haveing to stop to shoot does not bother me at all in this game. In fact its a bit more realistic. as some one who has fired hundreds of thousands of rounds from hand guns i can tell you that actualy hitting what your aiming at while running around is VERY hard past 10 ft. But what ever its a great game and i am loveing it. 60 bucks well spent.

I have a list of games to get for my PS3 when I get it. I have 19 games on that list. Resident Evil 5 is one of those games. It is the only game on my list that I have crossed out because I no longer want it. Having to stand still to shot killed it for me along with it not being a survival horror game. I couldn't care less what it's score is. I have heard enough bad things about the game to out weight the good things. So this is a skipped game for me.

10 does not mean perfect. on gamespot it does...No, Resident Evil 5 did not deserve an 8.5. Much, MUCH better games have gone with lower scores, so I don't see what would make it deserving. I'd personally give it a 6.5 after completing it (The first half was actually much better then the second half. Before getting into the second half I would have given it an 8.5 or so). It doesn't fit into its supposed genre, the controls are ancient, the graphics were passable at best, the script was like something out of an Uwe Boll film, the characters were poorly developed and unlikable, the final areas and boss fights were were extremely dissapointing and the ending actually made me chuckle. raven_squadi luaghed as well. Sheva's comment when they were on the chopper was so cheesy and cliche. totally lame.
