CoD4 S&D vs. SOCOM

So I didn't really care for SOCOM until I checked out that "Re-Review" that 1up gave the game.

Apparently, they have the whole 1 life system, like in S&D modes in CoD4.

My question is for anyone else here who's put numerous hours into CoD4's S&D mode and SOCOM:

How is SOCOM compared to S&D?

I love the adrenaline rush that comes with having one life and I might check out SOCOM for that element alone.

I played MGO, got addicted to it, then I started hating it.

People cheat; a lot of them just put tape on their TV's for easier headshots, since that's really the only effective way to kill anyone in that game.

It's ridiculous.

Konami needs to fix that.

I have been playing socom for a couple of days..
Its my first socom game i have played and i am
really enjoying it..so far as to have over a month
of play time on cod4 and then got socom..

i couldnt find anyone in an australian server so i
thought i would try cod4..but after having played
a fair bit of socom i just couldnt do it..its really lame
and just not as fun..cod4 your health regenerates
and you respawn after dieing.very unrealistic
socom you get a set amount of health at the
start of a game and only one life..

Have to disagree with that. Nothing is more stressful than being the last guy on the team against like four other people who are actually talking tactics. You kill one and have to get out of there in case he/she actually called out the location.

It's stressful and very rewarding if you can pull the win out. Much more so than COD 4.

Socom punishes people who don't stay with the team. You run off, you die, and you wait 5 minutes till the next round. You keep your eyes peeled and head down, and let your team know when you see the other team. Slow and methodically, you clear each area, or watch your zone when defending. Its intense as heck with a good team going.

Never actually played search and destroy in CoD4, always did domination matches. We always used hardcore though for 4 player split.

I have played alot of S&D destroy and unless Socom has Perks and the ability to throw a Grenada the distance of a football field I would guess that they may be alittle different.K1LLR3175

It's easily possible to throw a grenade the length of a football field. Not that I disagree w/ your post just stating a fact. Baseball player could actually throw a line drive the length w/ direct hit. THAT would be a perk!

as much as i like COD4, i fing SOCOM more tactical & fun.... i still enjoy COD4 online but since i got SOCOM am practically always online playing it (and FIFA 09) :)

I have been in numerous disadvantages and it's intense knowing there is three other guys alive and it's just me and all I have is one bar of health.

It's not like COD4 where every gun is 100% accurate and has no recoil and each gun is basically a sniper. Spray and pray in SOCOM will rarely get you out of a situation.

If you prefer Spawn,Shoot,Kill,Die,Respawn rinse and repeat. NO THANKS. SOCOM is a better game and takes skill which inturn is much more rewarding.

I guess that depends on who yea talk to....

People say they are fixed.....but in my case... I still run into disconnects/hard restarts/ and tons of lag..

How can you possibly compare COD4 to SOCOM? SOCOM is the father of ALL (every single one) modern online shooter games.....COD4's S&D is a rip off of the original SOCOM games.....EvilStealth64

Ohh I will.....even with the problems.... I am having a blast..

I was never a big socom player, played the original, but never went online. cod4 is really the first online i have played and boy have i played a lot of it. the mode i definitely played the most of was hardcore search and destroy.

Since socom has been released, i almost completely stopped playing COD4, let all my friends finally outrank me, and now i play Socom Confrontation a lot.

for S&D fans in COD4 (especially those good at it) you will imediately respect the seriously well-done map designs in Socom. they absolutely are far ahead of COD4 designs.

if S&D was your favorite mode in COD4, you will love socom, and you may think Urban Wasteland is one of the greatest maps ever created. seriously, i know thats bold, but that thing is amazing.

o and you will also truly appreciate the fact that like 90 percent of the community on Socom is always using a mic (a very good one that comes with the game i might add) so you get very positive team work. no whining and sh** talkin on there, just good team work.

you wont believe how beneficial it is to even just team up with one other play in this game.

I ranked up to the 10th prestige on
cod4 so i own hard and get first almost
every game..

I got socom recently and
my first socom game of the series..
and can not put the game down..
No health regenerations..
and a set amount of health
to start each round with..

So much fun..

Yet at the same time
punishes stupidity and
not using teamwork.

ahhh, you poor sod, CoD4 S&D i still VERY played mode and one of the most popular mods there.

and what with all that shyte about health regeneration and respawns, play CoD4 on hardcore where there is no regenerating.

i'm telling all this from my experience with both SOCOM and CoD4, and i must say that devs screwed SOCOM badly and CoD4 will still be played for years to come.

I've played SOCOM since the original on PS2, and they will always be my favorite series of games, no matter what. The first multiplayer experience I ever had just totally changed gaming for me. I've got Confrontation and I'm loving it. All the SOCOM games are good in their own ways.

However, I do have COD4, and it's fun in it's own respectable right. Really it all depends on the gamer. I like the tactical, not so fast paced gamplay that SOCOM has to offer. But COD4 is great when it comes to fast run n' gun gaming.

Couldnt have said it beeter myself. I also have to agree that Urban Wasteland is one of the best maps ever and that is saying alot. Escort on Urban Wasteland is my fav atm.

The headset with Socom is awesome. I had the same mic as you from warhawk, which I thought was good. But with this one I've actually had to turn down the volumn some lol. Its definitly the best bluetooth going right now for the ps3. And if you link it with the usb cable you get onscreen info when muting the mic, and also shows when connecting and disconnecting. It works perfectly.

And yes Socom and Counter strike work hand and hand, one is fps, and other is tps. Which I like Socom better.
