after the same guys who created the socom series ruined it with socom 4? i don't want to see another socom game ever again if the same guys are making it. i've been playing socom since socom 1 back in 2002 and socom 4 was nothing but a call of duty wannabe that didn't sell very good. socom 4 sucked and i bet most of the other guys that have been with socom since day 1 just like me didn't even touch socom 4. i never bought socom 4 but i was in the beta and it sucked. socom confrontation was more of a true socom game than socom 4 was. just saying the name even gets me mad.

Well you won't have to see another game at all from Zipper, since Sony closed the studio. :(
Honestly they did make plenty of terrible decisions with Socom 4, but they were more issues at the design/conception stage. The game engine was quite solid (on PS3, it runs much smoother than Call of Duty for sure), hit detections was excellent, game ran really smooth online with 64(?) players, etc. The technical guys did a good job both with the engine and servers, but whoever was in charge of the game failed to allow it to have been so "stripped down" in the squad controls. The main issue was that it was "dumbed down" from the get go.
I'm not sure if this studio was beyond making a great SOCOM game for this (or next) generation, so it was a shame to shut them down completely. Granted MAG was also a rather "middling" game for different reasons (256 players = great, servers = great, but terrible dated graphics and vehicle play were kind of embarassing). Granted the reason for why they were shut down was terrible sales, and the reality is even if they made a brilliant tactical SOCOM game, it still might have sold like crap and the end result have been the same. But at least SOCOM fans would have had a better game to play. Hopefully Sony gives another studio to make a better tactical TPS (or tactical FPS), I'd love to see Geurilla games do a tactical shooter rather than rehash more Killzone.

The problem has been terrible launch content. MAG did not launch with enough modes. They later added Interdiction and Escalation. Escalation at least should have been a launch game mode. MAG also did not have balanced factions to begin with. SVER attracted too many of the Beta players because their maps are far easier to figure out how to defend. Swapping the maps around like they did later on enhanced the gameplay as well. Socom 4 had similar issues. It started with the lack of any classic game modes at launch. Demolition at least should have been included. Then there was the awful decision to bring the cover system into online play. Again, we got generic multi-mode COD style maps from Zipper. They never should have left the single-mode map format of Socom 1 and 2. That decision alone was the death of Breach, Extraction, and Escort game modes. Who wants to play Crossroads breach? Seriously. If they give it to a studio that will take the series back to its roots, then Socom 5 will be a welcome sight. They give it to someone who picks up where Zipper left off, and they might as well just skip it and save themselves the heartache and lost money.I'd much rather see a MAG 2 than a SOCOM 5, when you got into a good server with balanced team MAG was one of my favorite shooters, the 256 player games was solid and something i wish other games would utilize (BF3 i'm looking at you).
I do think that SOCOM 5 is much more likely though, its much more recognizable
Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely to happen anytime soon? Definately not. After Combined Assault SOCOM really went down the tubes. I was infinitely disappointed with SOCOM 4. Confrontation felt more true to the classic SOCOM than SOCOM 4 was, and Confrontation really had some major issues.
I wouldn't mind seeing a MAG 2, honestly. I felt the gameplay, maps, and movement could've been improved upon, as well as the graphics, but it was overall a fun game to play, even though the scope of combat was a little too big for my taste. Platoon-sized teams would've made combat less hectic and ridiculous.
Anyway, I'm all for more SOCOM and MAG, PROVIDED, of course, they're done right, especially SOCOM. If that series is taken up again the developers need to take things back to basics, which is what made SOCOM so great in the past. The movement was fast-paced, and bullets actually went where you aimed and fired, lol.
So, let's just look forward to the future and hope for the best.
If Sony can find a Sanzaru games like developer with that has a passion for SOCOM, then yes, there could be.
