yes it can play bluray :) you can check wikipedia for more indepth facts (remember that it could've been altered on that site, but you'll get a general idea)
basically bluray: can be programmed, supported by most movie companies, and can store 25gb on each layer. :)
blue-ray is 25gigs and 50gigs(duel layered) in capacity. HD-DVD is 30gigs I think.
the PS3 is a blue-ray disk player, yes. Instead of a red laser to read disks, it uses a more powerful blue-violet laser, which is smaller in diameter, to read the tightly packed code on a blue-ray disk
