I've never play the original GTA4 for the PS3, will I be able to access the entire city in episode for liberty city? Will I miss a lot of the story or don't understand what's going on?

Thanks in advance

Yes, you can access the whole city. Episodes from liberty has nothing to do with GTA4.

Some missions are tied to GTA IV missions...

But yes, you won`t lose anything on the history of TLAD nor TBOGT if you don`t play GTA IV first (I`d recomend playing it later anyway, it may be boring at the beginning but takes some pace towards the middle of it).

there's a couple small references to gta 4, and one mission in gay tony is the opposite side of a mission from gta 4, but episodes from liberty city is 2 completely separate stories. there's no need to play gta 4 first to understand them

Exactly what everyone else already said

IMO of the 2 stories, TLAD is better than Gay Tony.

I'll be honest, both episodes are better than the original story. Gay Tony being the best one IMO.

I think they're releasing a collection that includes both GTA4 and the 2 episodes so you should buy that instead

The three all cross-reference each other. While it's not necessary to have played anyone it really helps to get the complete story.

Yes, you can access the whole city, and you won't miss any of the story, since they're 2 original, great stories. In fact, I recommend you don't even get GTA IV and jump straight to GTA Episodes, because after you finish the 3 of them, you'll only want to play Ballad of Gay Tony and GTA IV won't have much replay value.

Truthfully. To be very honest with you, you're going to want to play GTAIV even more. When I played EFLC and I kept seeing cameo's of Niko and how Niko took place in one part of Johnny's story to Luis's, It made me want to see Niko's perspective even more. I actually think you would enjoy it playing from their perspective first actually. I recommend you to play Johnny's campaign (Lost and Damnned) and then Luis's second Gay Tony). Other than that, If your are just talking about the city you will have more fun on Gay tony. But for online, I say have all three since they are all different servers

Like many others on here said, you can enjoys the Episodes without having to play GTA IV first, but all 3 of the games tend to cross reference each other so i suppose it would be best to play through GTA 4 first just so you don't get lost. Completely your choice though, like we said, you dont have to.

You can play and enjoy the episodes without having played the main story. GTA IV is one of those special games that everyone keeps talking about years after its release. So I suggest that you play the main story first, then TLAD, and finish with TBOGT. Well worth the time. Lots of fun.

Play through a bit of IV then go onto the Episodes. It doesn't particularly matter if you don't but it's good know the basics before you go

Gay Tony is the best of the 3 to play to just have fun and create havoc in. Mostly because it has fun cheats, weapons, and cool vehicles that arent in the other games.
