So I'm hearing these rumours around that Sony will unveil ps4 slim at e3. Supposedly it's going to have "upgraded hardware" including a faster Hard drive. Dilemma here. Witcher 3 is coming up and I'm dying to play the game, my computer would explode from playing it so I decided for the console version, and I can see some pretty nice PS4+witcher bundles. Any suggestions on what to do? What if I get the Ps4 now, then one week after E3 a much smoother PS4 launches a week after e3.

I'd be surprised if they announce a Slim PS4 this year, it's a bit soon I think. But if you can wait until after E3 to play TW3, then do that. If not, then just buy a PS4 now. But either way there isn't going to be a big difference in a Slim console, probably just a 1TB HDD maybe (which you can upgrade in current model).

the console is quite thin atm and there aren't any major problems with it for you to consider (like the ylod of the older ps3s vs the slim ps3s)....

i'd go for it and buy a ps4... :)

Just wait for the black Friday sale. While you wait, play your backlog.

I serious doubt you'll hear anything about a PS4 slim anytime soon. Go ahead and buy the current PS4, retailers are always have great daily deals for them.

Get a PlayStation 4 console now. It is a bit too early for a PS4 slim. Sony will make a PS4 Slim for sure. But not this year. PS4 would only get a slim once MS debuts theirs. I expect 2 years before a Slim model arrives. What would be nice is a PS4 with a 1TB HDD or even a 2TB HDD. That would be great.

So for now get a PS4 and don't wait for a Slimline PS4 since it will be 18 months to 2 full years away. Why wait that long?

@Szminsky: Way too soon for a slim dude. Look at the slimline history of PS machines from PS1, PS2, and PS3.

People just say silly things because they feel a slimline release will eventually happen, but they think it's always about to happen suddenly. Sony will most likely introduce a new slimline model in 2 years, so if you are keen on waiting, have fun. People remember vaguely about slim PS consoles and figure it's time to start a rumor before EVERY E3.

I can guarantee 99.9999% there is no slimline PS4 releasing this year. People are silly, I heard this question slimline PS4 asked this time last year right before E3 2013 as a matter of fact, right here in these forums. Some people just create the rumors and pass it around because they simply are justifying why they are waiting.

Well, they will be waiting a few years as slimlines are released after many things happen both at production and due to sales. Slimline models are used also to spike sales when the sales are lagging, and right now PS4 sales are booming. Also, there has to be a reduction in size to components, which again takes time.

There will be PS4 subtle revisions (as there was with PS1, PS2, and PS3s), but no slimline for quite some time (if ever).

Nobody even knows for sure if there will ever actually be a PS4 slim.

NOT ! A PS4 slim ? What ! Way too soon i think. At least i would be amazed. But it would give me a good reason to pass on my PS4 to my 10 year old, and get him off the ps3 once and for all. Plus, he's always on the PS4. I's sure there's a slim chance, and i would definitely buy it. Can't wait for E3 !

I'm still trying to figure out how Sony could even make it thinner. This thing is already smaller than the ps3 ultra slim

This, the hardware is jam packed in that thing to the brim and even with a lower nm process I can't see the size changing enough to create any form of a "slim" model, not to mention it's already pretty small.

The first time I opened up the box I was surprised how small the console was, there's really no need for a slim model right now. They probably already used pretty cheap materials to make the system anyway, nothing fancy and over the top like the original PS3 with all it's curves and piano black finish.

Waiting for that is the equivalent of holding your breath which won't be very fun with either. So just get it now if you're going to do so.

@Epak_: at that time those components were premium and ps3's competitors (well main competitor) didn't have them, but you could buy them for an additional fee... :)

It's already slightly smaller than a PS3 Slim, but wait for E3 then decide. It could be years before they introduce a PS4 Slim, if they ever do. My bet's on Sony just shrinking the die size and keeping the same case.

@MondasM: Well Xbox 360 did have USB-ports and a HDD on launch (premium), I think it lacked a HDMI port though.

Yes, the original 360 had no HDMI.

In fact, they had PR working on overdrive telling people HDMI wasn't all that great, lol.

It runs great, it's thin and sleek as it is, and it isn't making any noises to begin with.

I'd pass on the slim, since the slim releases usually upgrade and minimize (size, fan noise, etc) the console.

PS4 is quite noisy when it's on imo.

Is it? Perhaps comparing it with my 80GB PS3, that I bought in 2007, is the reason it doesn't give that impression. lol

@Epak_: If it's a slim, sure won't be. It's pretty much in order when it comes to noise.

PS3's noise > Slim's noise > PS4's noise

E3 is in like 2 weeks. Why not just wait and see if they announce a Slim model then? If not just pick one up then.

Personally I would expect a Slim model at next years E3, since the PS4 as it sits is selling pretty well. It took Sony 3 years to release a PS3 slim, and that was only after poor sales, and Activision threatening to not release any more games for the console unless there was a price drop.

More than likely if they announce anything this year it will be a PS4 packaged with a 1TB HDD, for the same price as the current model.

I think it's the fans that make the noise mostly. I have only 3 physical game discs and a bunch of digital downloads.
