I decided to do a little PS3 stress test last night and left my machine running all night, from about 2AM till about 930AM.  My controllers were getting a little weak on power so I needed to charge them anyway (come to find out my digital camera uses the same USB cord).

I ran Folding@Home alll night and the machine was bearly warm and still running fine in the morning.  Dont know if I will do it full time, at this point I can either have my PC on the net or my PS3, but not both (no router)

I did a scan with the WiFi just to see what it would find and it DID find a WiFi connection with a strenth of about 98%, could not get a IP address though.  I did not mess with it after that, dont want to get nailed by the ISP Police :D  At least I know the WiFi part works, just wonder if I really need a WiFi router (things cost $80-90 bucks for the fast ones)

I usually do, but just for 20 to 30 minutes.

We should be able to listen music while folding

I can see myself doing it on nights when i want to charge the controllers.  Still a little leery about it all though.  Its not just the heat (but IMO the machine is running COOLER when it does Folding than it does when it does games) but the wear and tear on the other parts.  Power Supply in particular.  Then there is the simple fact that I already pay $83 a month for electric as it is, add another 360watts or so to that and it could be closer to $90 :D

I always have Folding@Home running when I'm not using my PS3. There is no reason why PS3 owners shouldn't run the program during idle situations unless you don't have an internet connection or a router. On the Folding@Home website it talks about the power consumption for the PS3 running the program. Its only 200W

Its for a great cause and puts the cell processor to good use.

I totally agree with jams_shop, we need to be able to listen to music while doing it, cause when im cramming for a test I usually have my music on my PS3 going, and that would be a perfect opprotunity to do folding at home as well. Otherwise I'm all my PS3 alot and dont get a chance to fold@home.

Things I'd like to be able to do while folding:

Listen music

Chat with friends

Some kind of mini game, maybe high score motivated

Run F@H in the background so I can look at pictures and stuff like that, and if possible, watch DLed movies.

My PS3 has been on 24/7 since March 22 when folding at home became available and I havn't had any problems at all. So when I'm not gaming it's folding!

so far, I have only been folding for maybe an hour at a time, I am very paronoid about wear and tear, but I probably shouldn't worry if you guys are doing it for days at a time.

Can PCs and PS3s be on the same team?  I cant see why not but just want to be sure.  I just set up a team to test this.  I then added my PC and my PS3 to the same team.  We shall see what happens.  Only thing is my PS3 gets smaller workunits, the PC ones somtimes take 3 days.

Yes any one of the clients can be on the same team. Windows, Mac OS X/PowerPC, Mac OS X/Intel, Linux, GPU, and PS3.

Cool, now once I get it so I can have everything on the ISP connection at the same time I will be golden.  This swapping the wire back and forth is for the birds.

So what is faster, my PC or my PS3?  I cant tell from the WUs since they PS3 gets rather small WUs while the PC gets WUs that can take a day or more.  My stats from my way "un uber" PC are in my sig.

Wish they could make that Earth thing look better, add some clouds and perhaps add the terminator line.
