I don't think so. I highly doubt that. Sony really don't have to listen to them if they don't want to.

Activision wants others to lower their prices because there to high when they want to charge more for theirs. Remember when they said a video game should cost more. The price they wanted it to be would have beent almost $150 per game in Canada.

No, the price drop would have occurred with or without Activision's "threat". I'm sure Sony had planned it long before Activision made those comments.

How do we know for sure? All we can do is speculate.

It would make sense though, because I remember reading somewhere that Sony was going to host dedicated servers for Modern Warfare 2 despite it being muli-platform.

It's highly unlikely that Activision had anything to do with the recent price cut. SONY had this planned long before Bobby Kotick decided to make a fool of himself.

If it did have an effect they R& Ded that Slim pretty darn fast I mean what preped and ready in like 3 months? Wow activision really has the pull in this market that Bobby wants.

P.S. If you could not tell I was being sarcastic and I believe that activision had no part in it at all and it was being worked on way way before that.

I'm pretty sure the Slim was spinning it's wheels long before their empty threat.

People were complaining about cost after all.

Yeah, Sony developed the slim, and produced enough inventory for a widescale launch in 2 months.

I don't think the threats worked. My guess is that Sony had been planning on this price drop before Activision made their threats. Think about it, look at all of the great games that Sony is releasing in the next couple months (I'm not going to list all of them). The more consoles that are out on the market, the more games they sell. It was an excellent plan on Sony's part. Now was the perfect time for them to drop the price

The price drop is because of the new Slim, not because of the threat, IMO.

Actually, if you look at Kotick's threat he was going to suspend production in 2011 if there was no price drop. The threat was empty -- did anyone honestly think the console would not drop price in 3 years? There was ABSOLUTELY no pressure on Sony with this threat. Also, the slim had nothing to do with Kotick. Firstly, in track history, Sony always released a slimmer SKU of their original model, also Kaz Harai said it was in their business plan since the launch of the PS3 to release a slimmer model -- they just didn't know exactly when the prices and technology would enable them able.

I knew when back in April that Sony showed they exspected to ship 13 million PS3s(3 more million then last year) this physical year that they were planning a price cut. There is no way they can sell those kind of numbers without a price cut.

No... Activision threat was pointless. Were they going to drop Call of Duty from the PS3? It still sold what like 3 mil copies on it? I think Sony just like everyone saw a really big flaw in Activision's logic... of course they probably think this happened because of them because apparantly they are just that ignorant (sorry all my hate of EA has moved to Activision... all my hate for anything has moved to them).

But no they didn't right now was the time they were ready to announce the Slim and they were waiting for it to announce a price drop.

Nope, it would of already of been planned ages ago you have to think of profitablity etc, you can't have a threat and go ok i do what you say almost instantly as it could potentially mess up sales profit etc.

Of course not. We first knew about the Slim before E3 when it was leaked, which was before Activision's whining. Sony were planning the drop for some time so it was nothing to do with Activision.

If AV quit support for PS3 Sony would be in huge trouble and a lot of other companys would likely follow. You would see a lot less support for PS3 is AV did that.

Crossel777
I don't think that was an idle threat... if PS3 sales remain flat, Activision will most likely make good on their threat to drop PS3 support... fortunately for Sony, $299 PS3's should stimulate enough consumer interest to keep them in the game...
