Alright, Im really close to purchasing a PS3, but I had one more question. What are the differences between the 80 and 60gb versions besides the emotion engine chip and the hard drive space? I ask this because in some gamespot article I read http://www.gamespot.com/news/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=25947276&sid=6179995&tag=latestnews;title;2 it said something about reworked bluetooth components. Would this make the 80gb's bluetooth noticably superior to the 60 gb version in any way?TheTrueMarik
The emotion chip is the big difference and the 60gb is superior because of this. If you want more hard drive space SONY has made it easy to upgrade the console and you cand get a 120gb drive for about $85 - so it's not worth the extra $100 you'll spend to get the 80gb model which has inferior hardware as far as backward compatibility is concerned. If you want more than 60gb's get the 60gb unit and upgrade the drive - you can get bigger than 80gb for the same price you would pay for that unit.
Even with upgraded Bluetooth - if that's the case I don't see how that would make much difference - the Bluetooth in the 60gb model works flawlessly.
So...
Buy the 60gb model while you can.
The bluetooth is noticable for quite a few of us. Not a big deal, but at times the controller locks up and your characther / car or whatever you are playing just goes the wrong direction. It sucks when you play online RFOM and get killed because of it. How often? Maybe once per 8 hour session - so a big deal - not really. Annoying when it happens - absolutely. My second controller is all messed up and keeps spinning left (going back to warranty next week). I assume the issue is only in teh controller, but not sure. And before anyone disagrees on this - there aer multiple threads about the intermittent bluetooth issue so this is not just me...
I don't play my old ps2 games - I would have bought the 80gb.... $100 is quite a bit, but you do get motorstorm so I guess it is more like $70-80 extra...
well I saw one that also comes with lair if you purchase the 80 gb version. Would that be a good deal for the extra 100 dollars?
EDIT: I just saw a a 80gb version with motorstorm & tv-bluray remote thingyalone that comes for 550 which looks tempting. GRRR decisions, decisions!
$50 more with a game that you can probably ebay for at least 20-30 if you don't like it and the remote - no brainer for me... I would easily go with the 80gb bundle. You want to buy it and trade with me? :)
yea thanks for all the opinions. I ended up getting the 80 gb because it came with Lair for free as well. Also my ps2 and ps1 are in prettty good shape, so I dont have a need for extra backwards compatibility.
Finally a ps3 owner =D.

What's the exact link to download the backwards compatibility??Thanks a bunch :)GOgameING_FAR
Why'd you have to bump this thread? Also, you don't need a link to "download the backwards compatibility". This isn't Xbox 360. The BC updates come in the regular firmware updates, so just remember to keep your PS3 up-to-date and you should be fine.
Omg dont ever remind me of Lair, I was so hyped about it and when I got it, it was the crapiest game Ive ever played in my life what a waste of 60 bucks
im gettin PS3 now as well ( i didnt hav time to read all the posts so if u already mentioned it then soz :P ) but is there a difference in the number of controller ports etc? plus the only 1 i can find is the 80gb which is £300 ( cos i live in uk ) :P but how much is the 60gb now? and where could i get 1?
