Wow guys, i really didn't listen to anyone. At Christmas, I had NAT type 2. Everything was great and I downloaded everything really fast (like 1 gig demos in 15 minutes). However, I noticed it slowing down lately and taking a painfully long time just get each percent. I noticed that somehow I now had the dreaded NAT TYPE 3!!! DUH DUH DUH. So I followed everyones directions and enabled DMZ on my router and entered my ps3's IP address as found under system information and violla, I now download a megabyte every two seconds! Holy **** DMZ works wonders!!! EVERYONE SHOULD DO IT.

Yeah sure. It's just like leaving your house and car keys in the doorknob outside. DMZ kills your firewall rules for that IP. Smart move there. I like it when people hack my PS3 and corrupt my saves.

There isn't I've never heard of such a thing as someone hacking a PS3. The purpose of a DMZ is to provide services like a Web Server, so by having your ps3 on it will speed it up. However I have never heard of someone hacking a ps3 as there isn't a point. Corrupted saves? Last I heard a corrupted save happens when you turn off a system in the middle of a save.

I'll stick to doing things the proper way; UPnP port forwarding!

Quoting myself from another thread.

The ports that need to be forwarded are:

TCP 80
TCP 443
TCP 5223
UDP 3478
UDP 3479
UDP 3658

The ports above are the PSN ports, some online games also require extra ports to be open.

TCP 9293
TCP 10070-10080
UDP 10070

You do realise though that the point of UPnP port forwarding is that you don't need to trigger of forward any ports?

If you check my post history I've answered many threads on NAT3 to NAT2.

I still didn't notice really any difference at all. I don't get signed out of the PSN anymore but it is still really slow.

I don't understand the NAT 2 and NAT 3 designations. I can google doc on different NAT schemes including full cone, restricted cone, port restricted cone and symmetric NAT, static and dynamic NAT, but the only mention I ever find of NAT type 2 or 3 is on game sites, so I wonder what that really means.

I use NAT 2 and UPnP. :) Fast. I found that with NAT 3, I couldn't do certain things form my PS3. I think I remember that R6V or The Darkness wouldn't allow NAT 3. I forgets. But after changing to NAT 2. It worked.

dmz didnt make that much a diff. for me. I got a meg about every 4 seconds when i was wired, and every 7 or so when wireless. Is that a normal variation?

There are no worries. I don't know what the other guy is talking about. Turning on DMz only affects computers. The PS3 can't get a virus so it's okay. Don't turn on DMZ in your PS3 is running Linuz though, because then it can get viruses.
