Sony said that they will have 6 million PS3 units out by time of PS3 launch (Europe) which will be devided between America, Europe, Japan. Do you think that if they deliver on their promise will they be able to sell the 6 millin units before Summer. They will have alot of fantastic games coming in march and onwards so what do you guys think, can they or can't they?
Well they better start getting more consoles out, because they are sold out in a lot of places here. Also, they need the market in Japan to pick up, or they will be in big trouble.
By this summer? no. I'd say sometime in fall is more a realistic timeframe for 6 million. I guessed they would actually sell 10mil by the end of the year, and succeed where the 360 failed (i'm pretty sure M$ said they planned to sell 10mil by years end, don't think they made it)

I was just misinformed. Though, I do think they used dirty tactics to reach that number, which is not to say other companies don't do the same.
It has taken what 14months to get to 10mill. by nye 2006 sony had sold almost 1mill in just 2 regions. When the pal region takes it share i guess sony will be close to 6mill by end of summer. Microsoft r hoping to sell 15mill by 30th june 2007, i don't think that will happen.
Sony are going to have fantastic games coming out in Spring; Lair, Heavenly sword, Motorstorm, VF5 etc so why all the negativity.
VF5 has given PS3 a strong boost in Japan and I'm sure the same is gonna happen when gundam lands there. In America PS3 is selling at a good rate which will only increase in Spring.
Us Europeans are looking forward to the PS3 anxiously plus its the most preordered console here.

my guess is 6 mill sold by end of June. 10 mill by end of year. More by end of year if Sony puts in a price drop for the holiday season or Metal Gear and FF13 can find their ways to shelves before 2k8.

well, since they are reserving them like mad in europe, we are probably looking at them selling most of those, why would they ship 6 million if they dont see a need to? that would be bad business. obviously Sony knows what they are doing, maybe go out on a limb and say they are a bit better at it than any of you. not meaning to be offensive, but you people seem to think sony is just running into walls and sleeping on the job. they have business analysts, projection meetings im sure weekly if not more, most likely a team just there to figure out demand.

that 10.4 was to retailers. just like sony wants to have 6 million out by the end of March. they still haven't sold 10 million to consumers. they are close but arent there yet.

they sold 10.4 million by the end of the year :roll: link dude no. That's 10.4M sold to retailers not the consumer base. To date, the retailers have sold roughly 9.1Million xbox360 units to the general public and it's taken about 1year and 3 months to do so (so the :roll: thing is not really not necessary).
To the TC, I feel Sony will definitely get 6 Million out by summer (even a little more by June) and I also think the retailers would have sold well over 5 Million units by summer - easy. Look for retail PS3 sales reaching 10 Million well before Christmas day. Save this post and quote me later on it. :D
Once the games start coming out this year and definately next year (Playstation heavy hitters) the system will probably make massive leaps in sales. Remember PS1 and PS2 both have sold well over 110 million...PS3 will no doubt meet these sales figures by its lifes end. Remember, just 1 good game on 360 (Gears) moved around 1 million systems if not more just in time for the holiday season. Killzone 2 and heavenly sword could have the exact same effect along with any other mystery game(s) or sleeper hit(s) that come out. The price tag means little and cannot be compared to 3DO mainly cuz SOny is a big player not some out of the works wannabe that gets toppled by another company in 1 year.
ehh, who cares. They can only sale as much as they produce and not a console more. If they do good for them, and if not they will keep working so again who should care if you don't have a stake in the company? Most people will wait (A few people already made this comment) til good games actually come out before they buy the system(even though I always though the system came before the game, but hey thats just me), so I think the end of the year will look good for Sony. Again, only time will tell.
I would guess 3 million by the end of March (just short of 2 now, good games coming+Euro launch), and 4 million by the end of May. So by June 22nd (the official start of summer), I would say around 4.5 mil, maybe a tad less. 6 mil by the END of summer is probably a good bet, with Lair, Heavenly Sword, and NG:S all out by then.
Just thought I'd add that it's tax season, and for some of us who are getting big tax checks in the mail from the IRS, we are going to go out and buy a PS3 and a few games. I think spring will be huge for the PS3, their main audience (whats the ages? like 15-35 year old males?) will all have more money (college for this semester is now paid off) and will be seeing great exclusives that appeal us.
