So I just got the PS4 about 2 weeks ago and I have been playing it a lot- a lot more more in terms of my PS4 as well.

Now I am having a slight dilemma; do I sell my old PS3 with my old games and go fully PS4 or keep both? There are maybe a handful of games that I want to play again on PS3, but not a lot. I have thought of getting PS TV or PS now, but they didn't seem to be what I wanted.

I just want to be able to play my old games on PS4 even it it means just downloading them. Anyone know?

i don't think that you can play PS3 games on the PS4 but you should probably wait a year before selling the PS3.

@watchdogsrules:

I figured as much. There is a feature on the PS4 where you can upgrade from a PS3 game to a digital PS4 game, but I doubt any of my games will ever be on the list. It is times like this I wish Sony didn't abandon reverse compatibility.

@Mighty-Lu-Bu: did they ever allow reverse compatibility?

There's a chance that not every game you have will be available through PS Now or PSTV. You also lose nothing by keeping what you have. If you got rid of your PS3, you'd have to pay again for the games you already had.

With that in mind, I'd really consider how much value and play time are you getting out of the PS3. Will you miss it? Or can you play your PS4 and not look back?

The PS2 was fully backwards compatible with PSone games. The first two models of PS3 (20GB and 60GB) were backwards compatible with PS2 and PSone games, however, when they made the slightly redesign of PS3 (the 40GB model) it was only backwards compatible for PSone games... weird, but that's how it was.

Anyways, I like the advice everyone has given me. The only games I really play on PS3 are Demon's Souls/ Dark Souls 3, Dragon's Crown and Resident Evil 5/ Revelations. I could see the benefit of owning two systems and now I am using my PS3 as a blu-ray player in my bedroom. I don't know if Sony got greedy, but the backwards compatibility thing does suck.

@Mighty-Lu-Bu: since you have dark souls then surely in the near future they should let people download it for PS4, but other games not so sure about. with other games its highly unlikely you'll be able to play PS3 games on the PS4, but as far as downloading then its a fifty fifty chance.

I think it's too early to sell your PS3 now. You should wait at least a year, or maybe two.
