XBOX 360 has been proven to have a deficiency in its hardware, thus resulting in many returns, exchanges, and repairs. I am wondering if P.S.3. is facing the same fate as XBOX 360. Would anyone care to share their own personal-experience with their P.S.3. (Preferrably those who have had the console since launch, to get the best results).

ps3 hardware is solid built imo... I left my ps3 on for 4 weeks straight and after that, it froze like 2 times while playing F1... since college started I only play it like 7 hours a week

I've had mine since thanksgiving and the only freeze I experienced was when my blue tooth headset ran out of powerwhile playing. Keep the system in a open space (since it generates a lot of heat) and it should be fine. Compared to the 360 the PS3 is nearly perfect interms of construction. Yeah there's bound to be a few faulty units but the numbers have been extremely low.

Thanks to everyone who replied so far. The more responses there are, the better understanding I can get regarding how stable this console is.

I've had mine since December, and i haven't had any problems. No freezes, heating problems, nothing. However, the controller shuts off everytime i start or quit a ps2 game, but only ps2 games. Very strange, that one is.

so far, the ps3 is less problematic than the 360 imo. but a lot of 360 failures happen just after the 1-year warranty expires. so we will wait and see how reliable the ps3's are after a year or so.

I don't know how true that statement is... I bought a 360, but it malfunctioned within the first 24-hours. Then, got an exchange, and it malfuncted within 30-days. Then, I returned the second-one and I am selling all my XBOX-games. This is why I am asking the question regarding the topic, because I have had a terrible-experience with XBOX 360.

My first 360 died convieniently after my warranty expired (see my blog for the exact date) On my second one now.
From what I have heard the PS3 is solidly build with minimal problems, looks like its Microsofts turn to be the butt of defective console jokes.

As an owner of both I can say with all confidence that the PS3 is a far superior piece of hardware. I love my 360 and I have had the same one since launch, but the thing is noisy as hell and no where near as quiet and smooth as the ps3

Surprisingly, and I DO mean surprisingly, my PS3 has frozen zero times when I opened it late December. I was really expecting to have at least a couple of glitches or so, but none so far. It works amazingly.

And, yeah, apparently Call of Duty 3 for the PS3 makes the PS3 lock up, according to IGN's review. So if you've had your PS3 lock up because of this game, it's not teh PS3's fault, it's the game's.
