I first purchased a PS3 about 2 months ago and I ended up returning it and purchasing a new one. There wasn't anything wrong with the unit, I only returned it so I could purchase another one from a store where my brother works (employee discount). Anyway, upon returning my first system I overheard the clerks talking to each other just as I was leaving the store. The jist of it was that since there wasn't anything wrong with the system they were going to put it back on the shelf for sale. I didn't think anything of this at the time, but if they failed to wipe my HD clean prior to this I could have a serious problem. I already had a PS3 network account created and my setting were such that my password and e-mail were saved for easy sign-in capability. Basically, I think someone purchased my old system and is now using MY account rather than create their own.

I've continued to use my previous account on my new system for over a month without incident, but just recently I started experiencing problems with my connection while playing Resistance: Fall of Man online. I dismissed it as router or other network issues, but it's apparent now that it's something more. Today I'm unable to sign into my account. I receive an error stating something to the effect of: "unable to resolve account" or something like that.

I reluctantly created a new account to put a stop to this problem, but I'm still upset that some bastard is freeloading on my account. The only reason I even care is because I spent so much time leveling up my profile on Resistance and now it's been taken from me. I suppose it's still possible for me to use my account when Mr. (or Mrs.) Freeloader isn't using it, but what a crock of $h1t that would be.

If anyone sees ThE_MiLkMaN_ online tell him/her to get their own damn account!

What place lets you return a used system and get your money back and then put back on the shelf to resell?  The only time they should give you your money back is if the system itself is defective.

That's exactly why they don't give people their money back with returned used gaming systems with removable HD's. Besides, they check for that.

well u can easily get that rank ack. ull probably do better since your more experienced now. when the game pairs u up with a bunch of rooks you'll have like 25 kills and 3 deaths. and ur rank will just rise giving u a better kill-death ratio and what not

Today I managed to sign on to my old account and I promptly changed my password. I hope that resolves the issue.

We've all known that Game Stop and EB are bastards, it's already established that they would do things like this (Giving full refund for an opened item, and it's not even defective), but why didn't you erase the drive before you return it? This is also a good opportunity for new for future PS3 buyers to learn that if the seal on the PS3s have been opened, DON'T purchase them!

Er..

hang on here, ive heard of a story of a mother buying a PSP for her son and found porn on the memory stick, they blame the store.. NOT the person whoever sold the memory card or w/e to the store.

I read this thread earlier today and the TC posted "let me know if you run into the Milkman online" and then I played against him. What are the odds?
