So welcome to the PSP Theme & Firmware Update Thread.

CURRENT FIRMWARE VERSION: 4.01 download the EBOOT.PBP file here (24.5MB)

Firmware 4.01 was realeased on June 25th, 2008

The .PBP file is put into the X:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder.

(You'll need to create the UPDATE folder)

Read THIS thread for ALL the info you will need on updating your PSP's firmware.

-Network

*(Internet Search) has been added as a feature. You can now perform an Internet search directly from the XMB screen.

-Video

*Playback Speed (+) and Playback Speed (-) have been added as options to the control panel. You can now change the playback speed of video content saved on Memory Stick Duo media.

*Playback of video content under (Video) has been improved for certain file types.

-Game/Network

*Support for PLAYSTATION Network titles has been expanded.

*Display of search results under (Internet Search) has been improved for certain languages.

(These features are compatible with both PSP-1000 series and PSP-2000 series)

Stop!Update your PSP to the latest firmware before heading on towards these wonderful themes. It might cause problems to your PSP if you don't follow this.

The .PTF file is put into the X:/PSP/THEME folder.

...Come on, update that PSP of yours, select themes need use new buttons that you might not have

If the THEME folder does not exest, you can always make it yourself.

Once you have put the .PTF file into the THEME folder on your PSP. Simply just go into "Settings" and click "Themes".

Notice.

Some of the pictures may be in Japanese, but the theme is in FULL English.

Most themes MUST have WinRAR installed on you're computer. (DOWNLOAD)

Either...

1. Connect the PSP system to the PC using a commercially available USB cable.

or

2. Connect a commercially available Memory Stick USB Reader/Writer to the PC. or Use the Memory Stick slot on the PC.

Unless you're PSP has not been updated, you should not need to fallow any of these steps except for the "UPDATE" folder.

Using your PC, create a folder named "PSP" on the Memory Stick Duo media. Within the "PSP" folder, create a folder named "GAME". Within the "GAME" folder, create a folder named "UPDATE". (Folder names must be in all uppercase letters)

Download the update data (EBOOT.PBP) and save in the "UPDATE" folder.

Notice.

You must save the downloaded data as noted in these instructions. If you do not save in the correct location and with the filename shown below, the system will not recognize the update data.

Location: Save in the "UPDATE" folder

Filename: Save as filename "EBOOT.PBP"

PSP XMB Theme Creator 1.2 is Available in English

(DOWNLOAD) 1.2 (Firmware 3.80 or higher)

Although the instructions provided on the page are in Japanese. The program actually runs in English.

Granted, this is a lot of work to finish and there are a surprising number of buttons on an XMB menu to make. So good luck! ;)

Ok people, if you feel as though this should be sticked, please go and support it.

Updates will be coming, things like step by step pictured instructions, updates with in hours of the new themes coming out, and much more.

Once Sony lets us make our own, I'll have a Top 25 list of the very best themes that you'll be able to download on the internet.

Unless you were running "Special" programs, I doubt an update such as this one could have messed up your PSP.

Have you tried contacting Sony directly?

Well seeing the fact that Sony has only just announced that feature, I doubt it will be made possible before the 3.80 firmware update.

You would be right in saying "Mid October", Sony has mentioned mid to late October a few times now on the Official forums.

So I would expect that they'll be making Holiday themed updates very soon. ;)
