I am helping a friend try and fix his 250gb PS3 Slim. He was getting the issue of the "Restore Loop" originally. We ran the Safe mode option and did the system restore. This brought back and error "System Software cannot run correctly", but after press the PS button the system booted.
We set everything back up and shut down the system and the system would not shut down. The power button kept flashing green for about 15 minutes. Finally we pulled the power and back to the restore loop.
We ran the restore again, but this time we cannot get the "System Software cannot run correctly" error every time. I put update 4.66 on an USB and inserted it into the PS3. The software installation starts and run to about 89-92% and goes to an error "Cannot find applicable data".
At this point I am starting to lean towards the HDD in the system. I am trying the "Rebuild Data" option, but I am not very optimistic because its stuck at "Preparing".
Any ideas are welcomed.
