The PS2 headset works and it's via USB. Also there are a ton of bluetooth headsets what work as well.

Won't they come out with an official wired headset that connects to the PS3 controller? Who wants a usb cord going all the way to the PS3 console, and I haven't bothered with wireless headsets because who wants to deal with batteries. Maybe Sony can make a normal bluetoothe headset, but draws power from the controller.

That's wrong. USB headsets do work, i have one and it works wonders. I suggest the USB if you dont mind an extra wire. Its very reliable, you have volume options and you dont have to charge it.
