So basically I got a new playstation 3 this month as a one month early birthday present, anyways I'm getting one hundred dollars next month and I will be using that on games. On amazon for the most part brand new games are roughly 20-40 dollars depending on the game, and Ive purchased from amazon before so I plan on ordering my games from there. I own Mortal Kombat and Fallout new vegas, and am a huge fan of jrpgs and fighting games. I can probably get around six games at the most with this money, and I was wondering what games you guys would recommend since my library of games is currently only a measly two. Also its worth noting im not a huge fan of fallout, I prefer jrpgs as stated earlier. I do own an xbox 360 with tons of games but my brother took it over so I'm going to have to start from the ground up on my ps3.

Take 50 of that 100$ and get PS PLUS.... you'll have a great selection of free AAA tittles to start off with.

Ni no kuni looks interesting I'll look into it more. And ps plus certainly is an option but I do want some more physical games.

Ni No Kuni, Tales of Xillia, Soul Calibur 5, Marvel vs Capcom Ultimate 3, Legend of Dragoon, Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Breath of Fire 4, Final Fantasy 10 HD remake, FF 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, Tales of Symphonia HD remake, Blazblue Continuum Shift Extend.

Most of these games can be bought on psn. All the rpg classics are $10 and under. The HD remakes are more.

Ive taken into account like all of these, thanks to you guys I now have a good list. I plan on buying some of the newer games you guys mentioned first, and than buying a psn card later to get some of the classics. I do have fond memories of final fantasy 1,2 and especially 6. Ahh also Ive beaten tales of symphonia on my gamecube but never got to try out the sequel due to the lack of a wii so I'm probably going to give it a shot. Ni no kuni seems like something I should definitely get do to everyone suggesting it, own soul calibur 4 and 5 on the xbox 360 and 2 on my gamecube, but as I said it was tooken over so I think I'll buy it on playstation as well due to it being one of my favorite fighting game series. I had actually tooken a look at Blazblue continum shift extend last night and it looks awesome. Ico and shadow of colossus look like great games, and the ps3 "collection" games look like great deals. Anyways thanks all of you.

@aidanthegreat: Watch some reviews and just decide what you think is the best to buy. Ico and Shadow of Colussus have high ratings. But it is a bit artsy. So i would just recomend watching a few reviews or gameplay vids first

saying a game is artsy would usually be a compliment but i think i might know where you're coming from. both Ico and SotC where marvels for their time and any flaws seem to be easily forgiven. Ico is a giant escort mission and your AI pattern is brain dead at times and Ico combat is laughably bad at least its possible to ran past most of it, the finale boss fight is enjoyable though. SotC has a Gamma problem that makes certain areas way to bright and theirs no easy fix. they both suffer from non polished controls which wasn't fixed in the remake unfortunately, which can lead to clumsy platforming in ico and during SotC boss fights you're going to be thrown around like a rag doll witch can make the colossus infuriating at times! if you put some time into SotC you will get better at it.

well there are really some great JRPG's to have on the PS3, like for example you have the tales series which includes Xilia and Symphony, also you have right now the 1 and only FFX/X2 hd remasterd which will definitly make your day its really very good especialy FFX, and alos i really loved Ni No Kuni its really fun and has breathtaking story.

and also you can FF 7,8 & 9 on the PS store which , as you know already, are the awesome FF triplets .

and enjoy your PS3

They aren't bad games, they are just unique and are one of a kind games like Journey. So it's hard to describe them, so not everyone is going to like them, but those who do really do. It does have it's issues though

i agree they're both unique games and i do like them a lot (i'm the one who recommended them) if you can forgive the flaws they're great games! describing them... Ico takes place in a huge castle the castle is wait makes Ico special the plot is hard to explain without giving spoilers. SotC i'm not aware of any games that are similar to it. climbing on top of a Colossi that may be several storey tale or more or flying though the air is different. i really like the opening cutscene SotC really subtle yet effective way to tale a story. one more thing SotC the ps2 version had a lot of unused content on disk that can be accessed through hacking. SotC was originally planed to have 24 Colossi and a larger world map this was probably cut do to time constrains and the time constrains is probably why the controls aren't polished and hears some unused content Shadow of the Colossus - Beta dam compilation

Well mine as well update for you guys, basically I plan on buying Ni no kuni, Dark souls, Valkyria Chronicles, ico and shadow of colossus collection and ssf4 arcade edition. If I have money for another game probably devil may cry collection due to its cheapness and hack and slash games can be fun. Anyways my birthday is April 21st so I will get more money on my birthday to purchase probably some more games, not all of that will go towards games but this one hundred dollars is going towards the games I said. The money I get on my actual birthday will probably go towards Tales of Xilia, Tales of symphina hd collection, Final fantasy x/x2 hd collection and maybe kingdom hearts 1.5 remix if its worth it.

@aidanthegreat: If you're buying Dark Souls, get the Prepare to Die Edition. It includes the Artorias of the Abyss DLC @locus-solus mentioned.

As for recommendations, I don't know what sort of games you like, nor what you played on your old 360, but here are some random recommendations based on value for money. Most of these are sold new at budget prices. Most are also bundles so you can get more bang for your buck.

Uncharted Trilogy
Mass Effect Trilogy
Killzone Trilogy
Journey Collector's Edition (Includes Flow, Flower, soundtracks for all 3 games, and more)
Infamous Collection (Includes Infamous 1, 2, and Festival of Blood)
God of War Saga (Includes GoW 1, 2, 3, Ghost of Sparta, and Chains of Olympus)
Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster
Ratchet & Clank Collection(US)/Trilogy(EU)
Batman: Arkham Collection (Includes Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Origins)
Bioshock Ultimate Rapture Edition (Includes Bioshock 1, 2)
Assassin's Creed: Ezio's Trilogy (Includes Assassin's Creed II, AC: Brotherhood, and AC: Revelations)
Best of PlayStation Network Vol. 1 (Includes When Vikings Attack, Tokyo Jungle, Sound Shapes, Fat Princess)
Alice: Madness Returns (Also Includes American McGee's Alice HD)
Tekken Hybrid (Includes Tekken Tag Tournament HD, Tag Tournament 2 Prologue, and 2D & 3D versions of the animated film Blood Vengeance)
Time Crisis: Razing Storm (Also includes Time Crisis 4, and DeadStorm Pirates)
Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition

You may also like:
The Last of Us, Grand Theft Auto V, Tomb Raider, Vanquish, Valkyria Chronicles, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen.

Lastly, make sure you subscribe to PlayStation Plus, and save up for a PS Vita. =)

In addition to the games mentioned, I would add Folklore... a beautiful game. It is quite rare but see if you can track down a copy.

Random update, I now own since like last week, Dark souls, Ni no kuni, SSF4 Arcade edition and Little big planet 2 and I love them all. Ni no kuni is a beautiful game so far and dark souls is really fun even with the difficulty. arcade edition is a great fighter and lbp2 is super fun with my friends.

If you are really into fighters, Blazeblue Crono Phantasma is the newest and best Blazeblue. It has a ton of people online all the time, has many game modes and a mode that tells you the whole story up till where the game starts. Really great game.
