My PS3 is the 320gb model, am I able to put a new HD in it?

Its a used PS3 which I bought a little while back and I am going to be putting a 4TB into my PC soon and I was thinking I might put my PC's 1TB into the PS3.

However. I have done research into it to see if its possible and I keep coming up with conflicting information about some PS3's needing HD brackets and some not etc.. getting really confused.

Would perhaps anyone here be able to help clarify things for me? Also this is what my one looks like if it helps. Thanks.

PC as in desktop? Because that sort of hard drive won't fit in a PS3. It has to be a 2.5" hard drive that is used in laptops. But, as far as I know, all PS3 models' hard drives can be replaced. The process just varies slightly between models.

as mentioned above, the PS3 (and 4) can get HDDs replaced, and although depending on a model to model basis, made so consumers can change them if they want.

But! The size does indeed need to be the size of the HDDs a Laptop uses (or most ssds). So you can not take a standard desktop HDD and put in, if that is what you wanted to try.

@the_kiwi_gamer:

You do realise you can just get a SATA cable and leave the desktop HDD outside the PS3 and it will work fine.

And I can confirm it works if your wondering, I have a long SATA cable running out of the port to an external HDD (approximately 1-4TB, but its actually a NAS device, so everyone in the house can use it), the side is exposed obviously and you can cover it with some mesh so dust doesn't get inside the PS3.

A 2.5 Sata HDD formatted to the 32fat standard will work in any Playstation 3 model. Phat 20GB,40GB,60GB,80GB,160GB PS3 Slim 120GB,160GB,250GB,320GB PS3 superslim 250GB,500GB Even the flash model PS3 superslim 12GB which does require the purchase of an HDD caddy since it does not come with one. Can be upgraded to 750GB or 1TB HDD as long as it is 2.5 inch SATA formatted to 32FAT then your are fine.

Your 320GB PS3 can be easily upgraded. So no worries just back up your information that you want to keep. If you get the official HDD upgrade kit instructions are provided. The Playstation website has instructions for upgrading your HDD.

Even the 12GB flash model can be upgraded, you just have to find an HDD caddy. Good luck upgrading the PS3 320Gigger

My PS3 WAS 120 GB when I purchased it, a month later it became a 500 GB. Changing the HDD is very easy, there's a bunch of videos in Youtube teaching you how to do it.
