I consider the current PS4's design a missed opportunity. Cheap materials aside, there are wonderful ideas of shape and details, but also some weird design choices IMO. Always felt like an unfinished product in person.

Anyhow I was bored so I decided to give it a try at redesigning it

Thoughts?

I feel the ps4 is absolute masterpiece of art how they got it that small Withyham much tech is beyond me, feels very finished to me, not a bad redesign but you've basically used the ps2 slim, but good effort

Not bad! Although I think the unfinished product comment is much more applicable to the software features than the hardware - I think the design looks great and feels high quality

Nothing, but a slim redesign seems inevitable down the road

We don't need a slim ps4 and the reason why the PS4 looks perfect and remind me of PS2

THe PS4 in itself is already a geometrical beauty, however your slim rendition doesn't look bad either!

I don't think we need the PS4 to get any slimmer, I'd be a bit worried about cooling.

Get some Italian designers and let them do it.

See... I don't get the praise. There's no personality to the design. It's just a 3-dimensional parallelogram. It's a doorstop. At least the PS1 and PS3 had some unique aesthetics to them.

Its a doorstop? it looks more like an eraser to me.

Actually, that is a far more accurate comparison.

All they really need to do as far as i'm concerned is fix the damn wobble. I hate how I'm pretty much forced to have the system standing because is doesn't sit naturally on it's side, makes the whole system feel cheap.

Only Slim I ever liked was for the Xbox 360 because it made things quieter. Other than that I don't care. The PS4 is nice looking as it is, but I don't tend to sit and look at the box itself, but at the games it puts out. Might make more sense with the Xbox One since it is so large, but the PS4 is already small enough.

A good concept design of a slim PS4. But it is way too early for a PlayStation 4 slim. It is a given that there will be a PS4 slim in the future. But PS4 is just over 1 year old, so a Slim is not expected for a least 2 or 3 years yet. Still your slim design imagining is good and the PS4 slim may end up looking similar. But I would like a larger HDD when Sony does get around to releasing a PlayStation 4 slim.

Even PlayStation console has had a slim. The PS4 version will be coming. But not for a while yet. You could send your design to Sony and see if they will be inspired. I expect a slim PS4 to arrive around 2018.

The console is pretty damn small as it is, no need for a slim imo.

its going to be interesting to see just how small they can make it.

they got the PS3 size down a good bit over its life and that generated a lot of heat and used more power at launch than the PS4.

the PS4 is already a good deal smaller than the launch PS3.

maybe they will be able to squeez it all down to the size of a wii by 2018 :P.

anywho i never liked the look of the PS2 so i wouldnt like a PS4 slim to look like it. i like the look of the PS4 so a smaller version of that would be grand.

No way, it has to be smaller and thinner than the ps2 "slim" re-design so I can put it in my back pocket.
