I have a ps4 and a 720p tv i've had for a while and never felt the need to upgrade. But prices are fairly decent. Still alot of money to replace a tv that really isnt that old though.

That's debatable really... i know a lot who thinks HD isn't even worth it and then a lot that's the total opposite. Personally i think 1080p is indeed worth it, both for movies and gaming, and now we should actually see games use 1080 instead of 720 (and upscaled to 720).

But depending on your budget, maybe you should look at 4K tv's, that would be an even bigger upgrade (but games won't run that high res on current consoles).

It's basically just a 32 inch tv i have so not sure how much of an upgrade i need. I don't like overly huge tvs. 40 inch is about as big as ive thought of going. but still this tv is basically fine. I just would like the full benefit of the ps4 though.

Since you are already on a 720 TV there is an easy test.

Stick a DVD in and watch for a bit - You are watching at 480P

Stick a Blu-Ray in and watch for a bit - You are watching at 720P

If you notice a clear and definite improvement then I'd say upgrade to 1080P. If not then don't

Yes, unless your tv is very small.

EDIT: It's kind of hard finding a 1080p tv in 32" and smaller, but they do exist. I thought I was good with my 32" 720p tv until I bought a 32" 1080p tv, and now I'll never ever go back to 720p.

i don't really have the urge for uber graphics and 1080p. I am not really a graphic whore, but if you want the change then go for it. But if you are like me and don't really care, i say why buy a new TV when the one you have is fine?

Well, I went from like a 19" 720p TV to a 26" 1080p and I noticed a fairly significant improvement. Though, the 26" is an LED as opposed to just an LCD, if that makes a difference. I don't know a whole lot about TV's and stuff, but since you have a PS4 it might be worth it in the long run to upgrade.

If your TV is 32" or bigger, go buy 1080p tv especially since the price difference is small nowadays.

With TVs under 32", there isn't much a difference

I have a 1080p 32" samsung (5 series) and a 720p 32" samsung (4 series). Both televisions look good but the 1080p is noticeably better.

I never owned a 720p, I went right to 1080p when that was available way back when the Xbox 360 and PS3 were new....before that I had a 1080i set for PS2/Xbox/GC.

I think it's worth it, especially for LARGE HDTVs beyond 20 inches, but to each their own. I notice every time I'm at a friends house and they have a sub par cheap 720p HDTV.

I actually answered this exact question over five years ago at Gamespot.com a number of times. I had to do a double take to make sure this wasn't some sort of necro thread.

You got x2+ more pixels on the screen, at any Monitor size the difference is DEFINITELY noticable

"Not much of a difference" ?

Sitting 5+ metres away from Monitor or Eye problem or not played enough on given resolution.

All those resolution and frame rates discussions... so rediculous.

Reminds me of trying to convince my friends a long time ago to switch from 480p (RCA) to HDMI

Well worth it IMO. Most new TV's come with 3D also and some of the tables in Zen Pinball 2 surprised me how awesome they are in 3D.

Got a trophy and the notification came jumping out of the screen at me during intense multiball and it nearly knocked me off the couch.

I could always just plug it into my computer monitor which is 26 inch too if i really want 1080p. id just rather play on a bigger screen. 32 inch tv is really fine. my computer monitor would be a bit small in my estimation.

I have both 32" 720p and 50" 1080p and they both look great. The 1080p looks better (especially for movies), but when it comes to gaming I barely notice much of a difference. The 32" has more of a condensed image, so 720p looks good enough whereas a bigger tv needs more definition to fill up the space.

you can definitely notice the resolution difference between 720p and 1080p...720p still looks good so i dunno if its worth buying a whole new tv for since your tv isnt very old or broken. im still using a 720p plasma and i dont plan to upgrade anytime soon but different people have different opinions

I recently upgraded from a 22" 1080p Coby HDTV/Monitor combo to a 32" 1080p HDTV. There were others available for purchase, but I chose that one. They do indeed exist.

To answer your question, OP, an image at 1080p resolution offers a much sharper image than 720p can provide. If you would like to experience the full features of blu-ray video and current generation of console video gaming, you need a 1080p television. I will not ever buy myself or anyone I know a 720p HDTV. The obviousness of my preference in difference of resolution is probably understood at this point of my post, so I need not continue.
