I need help fixing my PS3

So when I turn it on, it stays on the T.V. that it was on before I pressed the power button, as if the PS3 wasn't on at all. I tried turning it off, but the power button wouldn't work if I just clicked it one time. I would have to either hold the button down or unplug it. I tried holding the power button down for until I hear two clicks, then I tried holding down until I heard three clicks then hold it down until I heard two clicks and a double click. Any help would be appreciated.
