There will probably only be a few cross-generation games come 2016. After that, you will probably just see sports games and maybe cut-down Call of Duty games.

Sony has a good track record when it comes to supporting it's previous-gen console! So I would say about 3-5 years.

@sandmand12:

Maybe a year or two. As a PS3 gamer, I wouldn't even mind that because the PS3 has a huge library of great games. I have a huge backlog of PS3 games that will keep me busy for many years. There is nothing wrong going back a couple years and picking up an old game for dirt cheap. This is a huge benefit of having a ps3 over the ps4. The PS3 still has amazing graphics. Not on par with the PS4 but better graphics doesn't mean better gameplay.

PS2 was released in 1999, last game ever made was PES 2014, which came out 2013, PS3 will have games being made until 2018.

I would say 2016. Tales of Zesteria will probably be one of the last titles on the platform. You already have Amplitude, Mortal Kombat X, Mighty Number 9 and Persona 5 coming out in 2015. Namco also just announced some Godzilla game coming to PS3 as well. Only third parties are supporting the platform as of now. Sony's first party has moved on to making PS4 titles.

Might Number 9 and Persona 5 are coming in 2015, so i think 2016 will be the last year with games coming for it

Sony has stated it will support the PS3 for 10 years. Way back in 2006 Sony did promise a 10 year lifespan for it then new console. The Playstation 3 debuted a cost of a whopping $600.00 for the premium model. And $500.00 for the low end model.

At the time the price didn't go over so well. Sony did state that PS3 would be supported for 10 years. So 2016 will be the year Sony makes good on their promise. 2015 and 2016 should see that last of Sony and 3rd party publishers support for the PS3.

The Playstation 4 has sold 13.5 million and may reach an even 14 million in it's first year on the market. So I would expect support for the PS3 not to last much after 2016. Sony will be keen to focus on the PS4. The years of 2017 and 2018 should see very limited 3rd party releases for PS3. Sony will have stopped making games for it after 2015. But budget games by 3rd parties and sports games will all that will be left during 2016,2017,2018

So you could catch up on PS3 games you may have missed over the years. But major game support for PS3 should more or less end after 2015. PS3 will get games up until 2018. By then most people will have switched to PS4.
