I know that you can take a flash card and put it in your computer and place mpg and mpegs on it and then download them to the PS3 and you can watch movies and what not...But my ?s are:

#1: Will the PS3 be able to play AVI files as well?

#2: What kind of flash card can I buy to even do this with?

the AVI file extention it self is unlikely to work although I've not really tested it myself.

Flash memory you can use in the 60GB version:
Memory Stick
Secure Digital (SD card)
Compact Flash.

As for USB solutions there are reports that both Flash drives and external Hard drives will work in the case of both 60 and 20gb models.
