Poll Do you find the PS4 disk drive to be noisy? (39 votes)

Yes 41%
No 46%
I wouldnt call it noisy, but.... 13%

So i got my PS4 today and wow, awesome so far. my one complaint, which i had hoped they would have rectified by now.... is the disk drive is crazy noisy. when i put KZSF in, it was noise for about 30 seconds and then went completely silent, but when i put AC4 in, the drive stayed pretty loud for a good 20-30min before quieting down...

have you all had the same experience? when it is on full speed, the thing sounds like a subwoofer slamming a deep base tone... its crazy.

This is the quietest disk drive I have ever heard in a console.

there is no way you guys are talking about the same disk drive.... put a game in and list as it spins up.... it is LOUD. depending on the game, it will go away between 1min and 30 minutes.... like AC4, always seems to take 20-30min before the drive quiets down.

The drive has a bit of noise when active but to describe it as noisy I would have to notice it while playing and I haven't yet.

Well I haven't played my AC black flag yet so not sure about that but Fifa 14 and Killzone SF makes a little noise for 1 minute than you can barely tell the console is on.

The fan in mine got louder when I had it in my TV cabinet where the back was blocked. So only the front was open. I removed the back part of the cabinet where the back of the PS4 vents and now it's very quiet always. It runs using a lot of power and needs front and rear open to the room.

Of course it's going to be louder when placed in an environment like that. It has to work harder to vent the heat because it's not being dispersed. Restricting a console's airflow is how you break it.

The disk drive is quiet on mine, except when it first starts up, but the fans can get pretty loud when playing Killzone. It's the only thing I'm disappointed with.

It's kind of noisy. About the same as my 360. I have it on my entertainment center and it rumbles the whole thing pretty loud. PS3 wouldn't do that. Not a huge deal to me. Overall beyond that the system is super quiet.

I have never noticed any noise coming from my PS4. Not that I'm trying to, but sitting 8 feet away there's no noticeable noise.

Has anyone fully installed any of the games on PS4 and if so did it run much quieter?

Mine is VERY noisy as well and I've found many people claim it happens with Killzone and Knack the most. I only have Killzone so I can't run any test. Sony may have used different manufacturers for the disk drive possibly? That could be a reason for some having extremely silent disk drives while others are getting an extremely loud noise. It could also be a defect in our disk drives, but I'm hoping it's just a different drive and we got the shitty version. Would hate for my drive to die in a few months/years from now.

I was trying to find the option to do that, but I couldn't find it. Is that even still possible like it was on the PS3?
