Dark Souls II for me. :)

Oh man, this is hard. I love the first Dark Souls just for the sheer scope of the game, as well as having giant boss battles. However, I'm gonna have to go with Dark Souls II. Not only are the mechanics better, but the enemies are definitely smarter and better at trying to kill you. Sure the bosses are a bit smaller in comparison, but they make up for it by really testing your skill with the combat. Plus, the world as a whole is just more beautiful from the art direction alone.

Have to go with Dark Souls 2

So is the combat a bit more fluid in DS2?

I really liked Demon's Souls, but combat seemed off in Dark Souls 1.

oops, clicked DSII instead of DSI. DSI has a much tighter design. the levels keep pushing you forward until you hit a boss. then the bosses so often have this clever design where they initially seem ridiculously hard until you figure out the trick or strategy. plus DSI had more of the shock factor. demons' souls had a bunch of crazy ideas like 5-2, DSI added on some more like the curse status, and then DSII really didn't have much of its own to add. i kinda missed having those moments thinking "they can do that?!?!"

Yes Dark souls 1 is a big jump from Demon's Souls. You should play DkS1.
