Hi. I read in the past that P.S.3. was having difficulty playing 200 and some games from P.S.1 and P.S.2.. I am curious if this issue is fixed or not.

200 games out of about 16,000 PS1/PS2 games....just to make sure that you understand that. and Sony is doing firmware upgrades to fix the games. They have fixed some of the problems.

Here is the link to the PS3 backwards compatibility search engine.... just type in whatever game you have to see if it works.... I heard of over 7-8000 PSone and PS2 games only about 100-200 have playback problems...thats like +97% compatible not bad.

you are thinking about the graphical glitch with just about every PS1/PS2 game. The original poster was asking about the 200 or so games that had sound problems, graphical glitches, freezing, etc.

I'll stack the PS3 against the 360 any day for backwards compatability.

yah 360 is a major disappointment as far as BC is concerned... only positive is Halo 1 and 2 in 720p... but Id rather be able to play all my old games than that... Sony and Nintendo did it right.

While its still not 100% every time the fireware updates it fixes a few more games. The onle ones that dont work didnt follow sonys rules and for the most part are rare.

YEs and no. With each new firmware more and more of the errors get fixed. Now I am not sure if all 200 were fixed, but I have to say I have not read any complaints either about people having trouble with any games for a long time now. Sadly Sony never releases a list of what EXACTLY is fixed in a firmware, they can be pretty vague, like "fixed PS2 compatability issue" but never mention which ones. Some of the biggest issues have a hardware device you can use so you can play games like Guitar Heroes any other game that used a wonky controller as they do not have a PS button, and you have to puch it when the game starts.

Thank you much, everyone. The website I was linked to was informative. It seems upsetting to read that Valkyrie Profile 2 has some issues in its opening... I hope that issue with the sound does not happen throughout the entire game...

I did notice something... interesting, though. Any game you look up on Sony's site, it says "No major problems for this game."... Does that mean there are minor-problems?
