I'm only getting it because I shamefully cannot wait until the 22nd, so I'm getting the first edition bundle. I won't be using the 3G, though, since I can't use my current phone plan with it, but at least it's there in case I ever want to use it.JustPlainLucas
Both the 1st Edition bundle and the 3G model come with a 250MB data plan with a free PSN game to download. Plus you don't have to have a contract to use 3G on the handheld. It's more of a prepaid plan really.
Dude, where have you been? It has been forever since I last seen you post on Gamespot. In my FEB, yes. I don't now if I'll actually use the 3G, but at least it's there if I decide I want to use it.

Wait a second, Vita can be used as a mobile phone? I remember being intrigued by the 3g version, but then also remember being turned off by the data restrictions. I could be wrong...
Wi-Fi isn't available every where. I'd like to see use Wi-Fi when you're on the bus or the train for example.Nope. No reason when you got wifi.

And a mobile phone.
No thanks. I have no desire to use up the battery in my Vita and my phone at the same time. Not mention the I impracticalities of tethering. You can play online using the 3G data plan. It's just some games will use the feature, but more will happen soon through development process. Downloading games is different, you can download it using 3G, but it's better to just use Wi-Fi for that matter to not go over your cap space and the cellphone data plans are completely irrelevant besides trying to tether with the Vita. What's the motivation for buying the 3G version? You can't play online with the connection, download size are limited, and you can't piggyback off your cellphone data plans.

Anyway, I literally just put down $249.99 on the Wi-Fi model at GameStop. I have absolutely no interest in paying a monthly fee for 3G when I have an iPhone and rarely play handheld games online.Nope. No reason when you got wifi.

Wait you can't even play online with that connection? Then yeah, it is worthless if you already own a smartphone. What's the motivation for buying the 3G version? You can't play online with the connection, download size are limited, and you can't piggyback off your cellphone data plans.

Bingo.
Yeah, from my understanding though, it's just for the first month. Both the 1st Edition bundle and the 3G model come with a 250MB data plan with a free PSN game to download. Plus you don't have to have a contract to use 3G on the handheld. It's more of a prepaid plan really.

The battery argument is a fair one, but if you already have a mobile hotspot option on your phone, its not that impractical. I have a Thunderbolt through Verizon and am grandfathered in with unlimited 4g data. My hotspot runs at 21mbps download and shows up as a normal wifi connection. With this set up, I will be able to use all features on the Vita no matter where I'm at.I got free 1.5 gb of internet in my local operator... but naah...
I'll stick with wifi version... not gonna play online while outside...
not gonna play online while outside...Matthew-first
You can't with most games, anyways. 3G is not for online play. I sometimes wonder how many people realize this.

The only point of 3g is small downloads (less than 20mb) and social stuff only pretty much right?[QUOTE="THA-TODD-BEAST"][QUOTE="Matthew-first"]not gonna play online while outside...AutoPilotOn

Almost everything 3G allows for on the Vita, you can do with everyday devices like mobile phones.
