Yes I am too. I'm looking forward to the social and game related aspects being available where ever I am instead of worrying about Wi-Fi hot spots and having to pay for them individually depending who the provider is. With 3G I'm paying one provider and can access it anywhere there is 3G coverage. I'll use the Wi-Fi if I'm near a free hot spot.

I'm only getting it because I shamefully cannot wait until the 22nd, so I'm getting the first edition bundle. I won't be using the 3G, though, since I can't use my current phone plan with it, but at least it's there in case I ever want to use it.

Both the 1st Edition bundle and the 3G model come with a 250MB data plan with a free PSN game to download. Plus you don't have to have a contract to use 3G on the handheld. It's more of a prepaid plan really.

In my FEB, yes. I don't now if I'll actually use the 3G, but at least it's there if I decide I want to use it.

The only reason why I'm getting the 3G is because it comes with an 8GB Memory card and the free PSN game. I couldn't really care less about the 3G itself, but I guess the option is always there if Sony ever comes to their senses and actually make the 3G worthwhile. If they don't eventually scrap it, that is.

Wait a second, Vita can be used as a mobile phone? I remember being intrigued by the 3g version, but then also remember being turned off by the data restrictions. I could be wrong...

Wi-Fi isn't available every where. I'd like to see use Wi-Fi when you're on the bus or the train for example.

Yes, I've preordered the 3G Launch Bundle. I haven't decided on what games to start with though, although I am considering Super Stardust Delta, Escape Plan, and Little Deviants. I'm not sure if LBP or MDN will be a huge leap over their PSP counterparts though. Could be wrong. Considering those, too. Also, Wipeout 2048 looks good. The most interesting looking one is Gravity Daze, but I don't think it's a launch title. There are a few other interesting ones, but those are the first to catch my eye.

What's the motivation for buying the 3G version? You can't play online with the connection, download size are limited, and you can't piggyback off your cellphone data plans.

So I went to pre-order the 3G/wifi launch bundle at BestBuy today and the guy said he wasn't sure completely about the bundle but they only have one SKU for the 3G/wifi model so I went ahead not really knowing if I was getting the bundle. Upon reviewing my receipt later, I had two SKUs listed that had been pre-ordered, the 3G/wifi PSVita and a second that is simply had the word "Escape". I wonder if this says a couple of things, namely that the bundle is represented by two SKUs in BestBuy's system and that the free PSN game that is in the bundle is "Escape Plan". Maybe it's just a placeholder but it seems too suspiciously specific for that. Thoughts?

You can play online using the 3G data plan. It's just some games will use the feature, but more will happen soon through development process. Downloading games is different, you can download it using 3G, but it's better to just use Wi-Fi for that matter to not go over your cap space and the cellphone data plans are completely irrelevant besides trying to tether with the Vita.

I'd like to see you get good 3G service on trains... Anyway, I literally just put down $249.99 on the Wi-Fi model at GameStop. I have absolutely no interest in paying a monthly fee for 3G when I have an iPhone and rarely play handheld games online.

Wait you can't even play online with that connection? Then yeah, it is worthless if you already own a smartphone.

Connect the wifi capable Vita to the wifi hotspot functionality known as your iPhone. Exorbitant carrier charges apply of course.

The battery argument is a fair one, but if you already have a mobile hotspot option on your phone, its not that impractical. I have a Thunderbolt through Verizon and am grandfathered in with unlimited 4g data. My hotspot runs at 21mbps download and shows up as a normal wifi connection. With this set up, I will be able to use all features on the Vita no matter where I'm at.

You can't with most games, anyways. 3G is not for online play. I sometimes wonder how many people realize this.

The only point of 3g is small downloads (less than 20mb) and social stuff only pretty much right?

Yeah, pretty much, and web browsing and GPS and things like that.

Almost everything 3G allows for on the Vita, you can do with everyday devices like mobile phones.

No. If you could play games over 3g then I would consider it, but there is no reason to if I can't download games over it or play online over it. It would be a silly purchase. Not to mention, I'm not even getting the PSV until March, so the week early thing doesn't affect me.
