My friend told me playing dvds on my ps3 will increase the risk of the lens getting damaged. Is this true ?

Your friend obviously doesn't know anything. No, it won't increase the risk of anything bad happening. DVD's and Blu-Rays play equally as good as each other on the PS3.

No. As a multimedia machine, one of its primary functions shouldn't cause damage to it. I just find that the fans go a lot louder on DVD's than games/Blu-Rays.

Lol, How old is your friend? 4? Well it doesn't damage it otherwise the ps3 wouldn't be too good. Not spending a fortune on blu rays.

okay of course i have to be the one to go against the grain but...

my 40 gigs blu ray drive failed a while back and not only did the local repair shops tell me this but so did sonys customer service.

although, it is a multimedia player it is not recomended that you play dvds and data format files (avi, mpeg, etc.) the readjusting of the lens is what caused my ps3 to freeze in the middle of a new blu ray and never work again. while many are now going to say "well i do it all the time" great, goodie for you. im just passing on what they told me the reason was for me now having a $400 paperweight.

Since it is a built in Blu-ray player.... What makes sense?

Also your "friend" is it actually a friend who said this or is this a typical sitcom cliche where someone whats advice on something and they say "A friend of mine was wondering..."
