star ocean till the end of time, its a great action rpg, but its a bit long to start up

shadow hearts series seems to be pretty good, i only played From the new world, but its was a fun game

if you can get your hands on suikoden 3, its awesome, but it might be expensive nowadays

Star Ocean till the end of time.

But if you ARE willing to try Final Fantasy, try Final Fantasy X-2. The game is WONDERFUL. People say "it's just fan service for men" or something stupid like that. In reality, the game is very fun.

The Tales series.

I personally prefers Tales of Legendia. Tales of the Abyss has potential, but is buggy as hell...

Disgaea (If you like deep startegy rpgs), or Grandia III. majadamus

if you dont care so much about storyline, i agree on Grandia 3, it has the best battle system for a rpg

if you like strategy rpgs i would recommed Disgaea too.

if you want an action rpg which is not FF or KH, i think you can try "Tales of" series, or if you like X-Men, X-Men Legend is in action rpg category, but its like beat'em-up rpg

if you want a turn-based rpg which is not FF or DQ, Shadow Hearts has a unique style battles

xeno saga is the best series of RPGs ever created. Much better than Final Fantasy. Pick all 3 games up. If your intelligent and like long cut scenes, these games were MADE for you

i actually found xenosaga to be very tedious and even boring

combat is quite annoying, and the story is so convoluted thats its hard to stick to it

I highly recomend... Suikoden V, Valkyrie Profile 2, Star Ocean, Radiata Stories, Xenosaga 1,2 & 3(will keep you going for quite a long time), Disgaea 1 or 2, Tales of..., and Grandia III.  All are very good games in their own ways.

X-2 is a great game if you can overlook the armor being dresses, thats the only reason I see that people dont like the game

But while it is not cheap, Shin Megami Tensi Nocturne is to me the best RPG to come out, t is worth the money you sped on it

Suikoden III if you can find it. That was my favorite PS2 RPG next to Final Fantasy X and I spent about 108 hours of playtime on it. Also, give Dark Cloud 2 a go. That gave me about 100 hours of playtime. So that should definitely occupy you for a while.

If you like action RPG then get Champions of Norrath and Champions: Return to Arms. They are reasonably cheap. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance I & II. I is out there for 11.99, But II is hard to find and Expensive.

Rogue galaxy, either Disgaea, Shadow Hearts, or the first Dot Hack series will all eat up plenty of time.  Rogue has an estimated 100+, and the first disgaea is 60 with the 2nd being 100+.  If you get the dot hack series and enjoy it you'll blow at least 150+ into it (I threw away about 175 into it when I was done and I still enjoy playing it time to time.)  As for shadow hearts I haven't been playing it lately so I dunno what the total estimated time for it is.

hmm...

Grandia 3: If you want an rpg that can waste 60 hours of your life.

Star Ocean Till the end of time: It's ok, kinda bad storyline, but great real-time gameplay.

Xenosaga: over 8 hours of voice acting? my god!

Rogue Galaxy is pretty good..

Or you might want to try out one of the Shin Megami Tensei series...

Which reminds me, you might want to wait for Persona3!!!

Xenosaga, Rogue Galaxy, Disgaea, Suikoden. If you don't mind older games, Xenogears, Threads of Fate, Vagrant Story, Chrono Trigger, and Chrono Cross. (Lol, I just realized how much of a fangirl I am for old school Squaresoft RPGs...)
