I find Espers to be completely useless. I really only found them of some usefulness just twice throughout the whole game. Once against Vossler which was the only time I ever felt like I needed an esper to help win me a battle and once for when it ws required to use belias to open the gate leading to Giruvegan.
They are useless, went through the entire game without summoning them. The game favours magic use much more than espers that bleed you dry. For that same reason I play without ever using quickenings.
The one or two times I summoned Balgias (or what ever the fire summon was called -- the first one you obtained) I really could have done fine with out it.
I agree, they never really were that necessary. They should have made it so you HAD to use them in certain situations, like clutch situations when you are in trouble during battle or something like that. The game is definitely beatable without an Esper
The Espers looked really cool in my opinion, but were garbage. If you actually needed them except for the one door you summon Belias to open, they'd be better.
i used the epsers for few bounty hunts but thats it. I had all main storyline espers and first three optinal espers. I used quuckings a lot I beat so many boss like that
I could not believe how useless the espers were in this game!!!! And to think some of the are near imposible to obtain, (like the one on the Llusu Mines), seems Square does not know how to inovate this part of the series. I think is worth mentioning also that they totally screwed up the "hunts"section on this game, you mean to tell me that Vayne Solidor has 200,00hp and ytiamat or whatever his name is has 5,000,000hp? Someone was not paying attention when they were balancing this game.
I rarely used them to be honest. Probably the first FF game where I barely summoned. I only think that Zodiark, and maybe Ultima, were any good though. Unless you needed to do other elemental damage, but that's different.
I think the only boss an esper is usefull against, Is when you fight Vossler. The only mist I use are the Quickenings, and I only use these when I am in trouble, Or when I am feeling lazy and just want to kill some enemies, quickly. Besides the only reason Belias is usefull against Vossler is because vossler is the most pathetic boss in the game for where how strong your people are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree. I rarely use them unless I need to do some elemental damage. Especially the one that only does Kill. No boss is going to die right away. I guess they want you to figure out which one is good to use, but what is the point when you don't know the true weakness of the boss. Quickenings are the way to go.
