Still have my 2500k, p8p67 Pro mobo with 8gb of ram. Canadian dollar too shit to to upgrade the whole thing, but i was thinking of getting two sticks of 4gb/each. Is it worth it or should i just upgrade the whole thing (this may take a while since CAD been bad for a long time).

Nothing in the background but minor stuff such as anti virus, afterbruner and such.

@silversix_:

When you play games see what your usage is at, if its 7gb or more you can use another 8gb.

@silversix_: I would say no, last I looked BF1 used the most RAM, it uses about 7gb. I'd recommend replacing the whole build in time rather than buying more ram.

with larger memory space available games may reserve and allocate more memory addresses than they would on a system with less ram, which usually results to faster load times etc, but unless you are running at 7gb+ use you most likely aren't missing out

It's actually very expensive right now, but I would definitely grab 16 gigs. 8 is too little, chances are they are using their page file. You have to look at the committed tab, not the memory usage in task manager.

Yeah I forgot how Win7 shows it. Windows 10 shows it on the performance tab.

I'd say save up a little more and go for 16GB kit. I've played tons of newer titles where I saw my RAM peaking around 7GB - 9GB (nothing really running in the background).

From top of my head games that use 8GB+ (I play @ 1440p) GTA 5, Black Ops 3, Need For Speed 2015, Mafia III. There are for sure more that I am forgetting. I think 16GB should be recommended for gaming @ 2017. We're not in 2014 anymore afterall lol.

I'm not sure why but my RAM usage was about the same when I had i7-4770K @ 4.4GHz • GTX 1070 • 16GB (4X4GB) DDR3 @ 1866mhz
What OS are you using? I only started noticing that after switching to W10 but that was a while back... over a year ago now. I had W7 before and used 8GB (2X4GB) @ 1600mhz for a little while and then switched to 16GB kit later on which I l had for like 3 years.

I have no idea whats going on here, but you should not be using that much ram and him going to 16 would not improve his gaming in any noticeable way. Maybe 1-3% for fps. As it stands, no one really needs 16gb unless they are doing programming, rendering, video editing, etc. If you're just gaming, especially with an older system, there is no reason to have 16. Hell, up until like 3 years ago most games didnt even use a full 4 and currently most games do not go above 6 at max settings 1440. I dont even think 8k gaming breaks 8gb although it woud probably be recommended to have at least 12 in that case.

Well the reason I have 16GB is because I do a little bit of video editing and a lot when gaming I have other stuff running as well... like a web browser and sometimes other few programs but they don't require much resources. (When monitoring RAM I had nothing but games themselves running).
Maybe resolution could play a role w/ RAM? I've been playing @ 1440p for the past 3 years. Either way it doesn't effect me. I still have plenty of available memory no matter what I am doing.

Im just saying that most of those games you listed dont use more than 5 or 6 at max. So maybe you have some stuff in the background thats really stealing your ram or youre not correctly reading how much those games are actually taking, because there is no way those games are taking up what you think they are. I edited my post before and you must have quoted it prior to the edit, but even most 4k gaming does not go above 8gb.
