well my 8800gtx died on me about 3-4 weeks ago so i sent it off to XFX to get it fixed or replaced. i was getting updates from the XFX team on the RMA status of my 8800. Then they said to me they will be sending a replacement and there gonna source out a 8800GTX, so i replyed in a joking manner. if you dont have any 8800GTX in stock i'll take a 9800GTX off your hands. and put LOL at the end to show i was joking..

Any ways the post man came today with my new GPU and its a bloody 9800GTX hahahahaha. how about that!! i know its not a massive upgrade from 8800gtx but its better than nothing. Next time i'll try blaggin for a GTX280 lol

I think it's just because the 8800GTX is EOL and would be impossible to find so they give you the new equivalent.

I've owned cards by XFX, BFG and EVGA, and probably a couple other companies. They're all good and I've yet to have any problems. It's cool that they gave you that upgrade, although the 9800 series is really just a tweaked 8800 series. It's not as much of a performance or architecture improvement as going from GeForce 6 to 7, or 7 to 8 series, for example.

XFX is great. That's what a lifetime warranty will get for you. I always try to buy XFX if I can.

Isn't the 9800GTX worse than the 8800GTX at higher resolutions?

congrats man, some people need a break lol glad you got one,

but so far, the most reliable (for me) would prolly be BFG. i love their stuff.

but just because i like them, i wont keep myself from getting a better product just because it doesnt have their label on it.

I like and use XFX, but I am thinking of going with EVGA (unless I go ATI then definitely XFX) with my next card.

I like XFX's double-lifetime warranty but I have heard of some people having to wait 7 weeks for a replacement card. Sounds like you were without for at least 4 weeks. EVGA offers to cross-ship replacement cards. I am a HUGE fan of cross-shipping, LOL.

I hope XFX will start a cross-shipping program soon, but I doubt it.

Not me I was only out of a card for 9 days. My old xfx 7600gs died from my crt, it surged which took out the card too. And after contacting them and shipped it to them after they recieved they tested it said it was bad within a working day, and they shipped me a new one the next day.

Wow, that's not bad. I hope that is how it goes if I ever have a problem with my 8800GTX. But still, I like cross-shipping, LOL.

I heard from an XFX rep. that they were trying to get a step-up program, and implement cross-shipping, but this was over a year ago, so I don't think they will, but I still have hope.

Indeed it is. The difference can be quite big. Especially at 2560x1600.

I'm not gonna cause a flamewar and say XFX is superior to other brands like EVGA, but, in my opinion, it's among the top 3. At the very least, they are top dawg when it comes to packaging. I didn't get my gtx 260 from them, but i did get my motherboard from them and wow, i was amazed at the care and thought that was put into the packaging. I love my XFX 780i. It's the same basic hardware as the EVGA, but, i've seen the packaging of the EVGA and compared to XFX, they don't even come close.
