I havent played a space sim in ages. There are 3 I have never played

1. Darkstar One

2. Freelancer

3. X2/X3 series

I have played just about everything else. All the X-Wing Series, All the Wing Commanders, Starlancer, FreeSpace 1+2, etc.

price is about the same for all 3, which do you chose?

Darkstar One, because it's basically Han Solo: The Game.

Darkstar One is cool, if a bit dated.

X3: Reunion has a veeeeery steep learning curve, and plays very slowly. It can take weeks, sometimes months to start gaining enough reputation to buy bigger ships, and it takes a lot of patience as the beginning of the game goes very very slow while you make money and build your name up.

Graphics wise, X3 blows them both out of the water if you have a system that can handle it on full.

Freelancer is a classic but the trading aspect of both it and Darkstar are also nowhere near as complex and fleshed out as X3.

Freelancer is great, Lots of mods and still active online. Though Microsoft has shut down the Main Server so you either need to download the Main server buypass program or connect through IP.

Darkstar one is Ok but you get fast bored of it and it lacks Online Muliplayer

Havnt tried X3 so....listen to the other about this game :)

Just curious but have you played the numerous mods out for Freespace 2 as well as source?

I didn't see Independence War 2 in your "played" list. I don't have much experience with the three "not played" games/series, though the X series would probably appeal the most to me due to their open nature. However, what appeals to me may not appeal to you.

I second the recommendation of Independence War 2. If you haven't played it, you're missing out on a great game.

X3 Reunion sells at its latest version.. They do not sell the Starforce riddled version any more.

It also sells on Steam if you have broad band.
