Say i am planning to upgrade my PC with either more RAM or a newer GPU, which one would cause a more significant global performance increase in most recently released video games?(if at all):

a GTX550 (To replace my currently installed GTS250)
or
4 additional GBs of DDR2 RAM, adding to already installed 3GBs of DDR2 RAM (My OS is 64-bit, so i can add more than 3 GBs of memory, obviously)
Thanks in advance

I never compared a GPU to RAM, but just like a GPU and a Processor, RAM is also a factor for performance in video games, this is why i am asking what would be a better upgrade, with my current computer specs considered, however, thanks for warning me about the 550.

i know the highlighted part is what i was referring to its just that each one does completely different roles. and no prob the 550 is such a pos its even an understatement to call it a pos

Something tells me you have a C2D in which case there's no point upgrading anything.

The upgrade from a GTS 250 to a GTX 550 Ti is not worth it. I'm not saying the GTX 550 Ti is a bad card, but from a GTS 250 the difference isn't big enough to warrant the cost. A RAM upgrade is also not necessary for most games either. Battlefield 3 might see an improvement, but by and large most games should run just fine with 3GB of RAM.

The 550 isn't a big enough a step over the 250. Get the 460 1gb or 560ti at least.

Actually, my local hardware supplier does have that GPU, the question is, would it be a decent upgrade over my GTS250? because if so, that's great news because the HD6850 is actually cheaper than the GTX550 by like $20 down where i live.

the 6850 is much faster than 550 and its a decent step over a gts 250 Also would help to know what is your CPU and power supply. For instance there is no reason running a 6850 on a weak 2core cpu since you wont see performance gains over a 250gts Also i assume since you have a gts 250 your power supply is enough to provide power to a 6850 but in any case what is your PSU?

Too lazy to open my PC at the moment, and i'm not sure what my PSU is, all i know is that ever since i replaced my old PSU which has been causing shut-downs and power shortages, my computer has been running flawlessly.
My CPU is Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 @ 2.66GHz , i believe that's enough to be running a 6850.

The Q8400 is still a good CPU, stick a 6850 in there and you'll be good to go.

Certain games will need more RAM, but in a lot of cases, the GPU will be a better upgrade (looking at your specs).

A GTS 250 re-brand of the 9800GTX+... a GTX 550 ti would offer a big boost in performance and the HD 6850 would give even more of a performance boost.
