I've been using Xfire but had to use Steam for L4D and was quite impressed with it

Which is best in your opinion?

I hate Xfire. I never really use it. So for me I would go with Steam.

I use both. Steam is great for digital distribution and such while Xfire keeps count of my playtime and it's a great tool for screenshots.

I like xfire because (i don't know if steam supports these features - it might) - Video capture, Video streaming, takes up less resources than steam, tracks game hours and what you've played etc. I also like the ease of right clicking on someone and selecting "join game". Makes COD4 playable together. =]. But then, steam is not designed to do the same thing, xfire is to keep gamers connected, steam is for digital distritbution.

Well really, they are two totally different things. Yes, Steam tracks hours of your Steam games played, but that's about it. Xfire tracks a lot more games, let's you add friends to people playing games that AREN'T Steam games, and a whole lot more (video capture for one).

But Steam is a digital distribution system for games, whereas xfire is basically an instant messenger for gamers.

I don't use xfire anymore as it was rather pointless for me. None of my friends used it, and I didn't really have any interest in playing with strangers. It's screen and video capture though are pretty good for being a free program.

I used X-fire for a long time, till I started using steam then x-fire just started to become dead weight,

I really don't have any uses for it anymore that Steam cant do. the Video recorder is nice but I bought Fraps back in June/ or July I think.
(I was tired of the 30 sec limit each record, But loved Fraps)

So X-fire just became useless for me sadly.

I use both. Xfire is great for recording videos and taking screenshots. Plus it's a place for me to talk to my friends who don't use steam.

I used to use XFire a ton, but I barely know anyone who uses it, and no one with any consistency that plays the games I play. Steam is a great service, so I'm pretty happy with it.

I can't play without Xfire running anymore...

I don't like Steam, I use it only for free games and promotions.

I've been using Xfire before Steam has even had chat capabilities. I use Xfire for socializing, Steam for gaming. I'll leave it at that.

That's what I find. I also find xfire more useful because I play a lot of non-steam games and so I can still chat to my mates.

xfire for communication, steam to hold games.

I don't use the steam community thing at all, but have it for games.

I use and like both of them. Xfire tends to be more practical for me because not all my friends play Valve games.

Seeing as they have two fairly different purposes, I use both. I don't use Xfire for games that I have on Steam, or any game that I can tie to Steam. I use Steam mainly as a messaging program between a very few select friends. I've had the account for roughly 4 years and I only have 15 friends; by choice.

Xfire is easily better than Steam. Assuming you haven't purchased the game off of Steam, what exactly does Steam have that Xfire doesn't? Nothing I can think of. But I can think of features that Xfire has over Steam. And Xfire consumes fewer resources.

I love Xfire and I use his features 99% of my PC time. I like his personal stats tracking, the voice IP and chat support and gaming launchig, but above any other feature I like that is not mandatory and/or intrusive, and any time a player wants to join to your friend list the admission is subject to your approve. I have Seam because I have HL-2 and DoW II, but I don't use it and don't buy games linked to Steam anymore.

You really can't compare them,

Steam is hardcore into delivering a content-delivery service

Xfire is hardcore into keeping gameplay hours, screenshots and videos.

I use them both equally.

Steam for cheap deals and i use it to keep my games organized (steam games, and shortcuts to others)

Xfire is great for screenshots and keeping a timecheck on how many hours ive wasted
