I also use private internet access, it's very good. You should test out different servers to find whichever has the best ping for you. The server that is closest to you won't necessarily have the best ping so test out several that are near where you are located. I only notice around 30 ms extra latency when using a vpn so its not even noticable.

I get around 30-40 ms from nearby servers when not on a vpn, when on a vpn its around 50-70 ms.

Don't do any banking while using a vpn though, the bank may lock your account as a security precaution because they may think a random person is trying to get into your account. It happened once to me because i forgot to turn off my vpn while doing online banking, but they will unlock it when you phone them.
