Other than Dungeon Siege 2... which I love... except for the EXTREMELY cheesy and horrible voice acting...

Yea DS 2 is the way to go if you want nice looking graphics. It is almost EXACTLY like diablo except I think it is a tiny bit harder, but only because they throw a ton of more mobs at you than D2 did, but it is still easy.

Throne of darkness uses a very similar engine to Diablo. You control 7 samurai, each with special skills, but you can only control a maximum of 4 at one time, and the AI control 3 of em at that one time.

Quite a good hack and slash.

Yeah sacred is exactly like diablo 2....Infact I heard the single player is better. they even have a multiplayer set up like battle.net but I am not sure how popular it is...

guild wars is not like diablo.... it is not a fast pace hack n slash...the battles are extremely slow and it doesn't have tons of items like diablo 2 does.

Guild Wars throws in some MMORPG (without the monthly fee) stuff but it still is very much fun hack and slash in a similar style to Diablo.

Hellgate: London sure looks promising (but it's not out yet), and if you look for Diablo-like hack'n'slash gameplay, this is where your search can stop. Go buy Hellgate: London when it hits the stores. And, oh... probably upgrade your computer while you're at it, as well.

Another good, primarily hack'n'slash/action RPG was Enclave, released some years back (not sure if 2002 or 2003). Also worth a try.

Go with Sacred - But if you have any CD-emulation software on your computer (Alcohol, Daemon tools) take it off. It won't let you install the game if you have anything like that on there, because we all know game publishers should dictate to us what we're allowed or not allowed to have on our computers.

As for the similarity between GW and Diablo, I think he was saying that because both games require you to click on monsters until they die, then do it again and again and occasionally "level up" GW is in many ways like Diablo, and in many ways different. It's a good game, but very reminiscent.

Dungeon Siege 2.

I've only played the demo.  Deriviative as HECK (the story is ripped straight out of LOTR), but it's one of the best hack 'n slashes that you can get.

Also, Sacred and FATE are good, though FATE only has one huge dungeon.  Titan Quest is also definetly worth a try.

Divine Divinity, Beyond Divinity, Sacred, and Titan's Quest are all good Diablo style games. I've played through all of them and I'd have to give the top honors to Sacred and Titan's Quest. Both give you a lot of good solid gameplay and take many hours to finish.

Sacred 2: Fallen Angel is the latest Diablo type Action RPG. imo it's far better than Titan Quest. actually, playing single-player, I prefer it over Diablo 2.

Sacred 2 is pretty crappy. The online is already completely dead due to how boring it gets. It has a nice looking and huge world, but the combat is snooze worthy. The character progression is also snooze worthy...most of the skills are lack luster too. I was really excited for this game...so it's not like I am slamming the game for no reason. It's my biggest disappointment of 2008. It's probably worth the purchase just to go through the main campaign once (which is chock full of cheesy dialog and corny jokes)...but only if you can find the game for a bargain.

My recommendation is Titan Quest + Immortal Throne expansion. You can get both for $20 on steam and it's far and away the best Diablo clone to date. Huge array of skills, multi class characters, awesome amount of customization, HUGE assortment of items of varying power, ragdoll physics (so combat has "oomph"), great boss fights, and lot's of replayability. They even do things like add new levels of items (legendary) to higher difficulties and add new bosses to keep things fresh. Plus, the graphics hold up nicely even today.

TQ has two issues though...one is it's so-so story. That can be overlooked as any ARPG the primary draw is the action and character building which TQ comes through in spades.

The second is it has open net for multiplayer. This is what really sucked on release for the game. Lots of cheaters online which can ruin the experience. The good news is you can still find legit games and the online is still pretty populated (more then Sacred 2 which is a ghost town).

Anyways, that's my opinion. ARPG's are my favorite type of games. I have pretty much played them all...even the really crappy ones like Loki.

Can anyone 100% confirm that I will be able to play titan quest with my wife over LAN with only 1 STEAM copy of the game? Since I can only be logged in on 1 computer at a time on steam I was thinking this might prevent me from being able to play it with my wife,

Yes, you can...though it's kind of messy. Basically install steam on both computers and download TQ (one at a time as you cannot be logged into steam on two computers at the same time). Once thats done, start TQ on one computer, then log into steam on the other and start TQ. You will be booted off of stea on the first computer, but both instances of TQ will be running and playable (including LAN).

I do this at home myself so I know it works.

You can add another word of support for Titan Quest.

Other than that, Dungeon siege isn't too bad. There is also a game called Loki, if you are willing to look it up, i never tried it but it is in the same genre.

Great news thanks man! Will be buying this today. (Actually I am going to try the demo first to make sure it works ok on my system with windows 7, but as long as it works I will be buying it.
