I'd give it to charity, after making sure that all data was securely wiped off the hard drive.

I usually break down older machines into their components; you never know when you might need something.

You can actually still use it as a backup rig.

There's no "Save it and use it from time to time" option.

Do something that you've always wanted to do to your computer, but were afraid to break it.

Use it as a file server if you need one. I personally have a file server at home for my "downloads" and well I enjoy having the free space on my main machines and the fact that I can access the files anytime.

Put linux on it and make a Linux box... I did that with a P3 450Mhz computer. Just keep older computers even if you don't use them often. :P

P3 450Mhz, 64Mb, 32MB Voodoo 2 with a copy of Win98 can run Half-life, System Shock 2, Empire Earth, Unreal Tournament, etc. upgrade the memory, over clock the processor and you can run even more.

I'll second the Linux suggestion. Xubuntu will run great on that rig, and you can use it for all kinds of stuff. Keep it for productivity and use the newer one for gaming. Or you can set it up as a dedicated server or use it as a firewall. With a big hard drive and video tuner you could even use ti as a HTPC. :P

Keep it!!! I can not stress this enough, you'll never know when the parts/comp will come in handy. EG: I just gave an old P3 to my grandmother (all she needed was word and internet) and it still works great. + If a comp breaks down you can take the parts off it and speed up another comp. You can never have too much space in your house for computer storage.

^Exactly. Slap a Linux distro on there (say, Xubuntu) and turn it into a file/print server and bittorrent box. Set it up right with a dynamic DNS service and SSH, and you could even make that file/print server accessible from anywhere in the world. Perfect if you travel a lot or want to set up some off-site backups for your files. ;)

Make it into an FTP server, a fileserver, dedicated router, domain controller, etc. Run old games on it, test software that is still in bèta state, nostalgia. :)

I just took a golf club to my old old old pc... its quite fun.

But if you love it then the above probably isnt an option so either use it as some form of a server like people have suggested.

Hey everyone, what if i overclock it, put a ram card, put a graphic card in........

It'll be not that slow afterwards. I found out i could overclock it to 700mhz-1ghz (at least without it blowing up)

RAM can be around 512Mb

Say.....a Geforce 7900 series will do.

And a nice new case

So, wht do u think?

I got rid of two old pc's (duron,128mb ram,p3,128mb ram) in the tip a couple of weeks ago.

If they can't run windows 2000 then get rid of them seeing as windows ME and below are not supported anymore and are useless if you want to go on the net with them, from a virus threat point of view.Â
