My Current PC:

Intel e8400 - 3.0ghz dual core (Not overclocked)
2gb ddr2 ram cl 4
ATI radeon 4830
Gigabyte DS3L - p35 chipset
Vista Operating System
320gb hard drive
Deathadder mouse
microsoft keyboard
20+ inch widescreen LG lcd
wireless pci card for internet
500W power supply

Not sure if some of the stuff really matters; but im looking to play ARMA 2 and games like Crysis and GTA IV on higher frames.

What is your recommended next upgrade for me?

Sorry to use your topic a bit cliff, but I have the same CPU as him folks, plus a 4870x2 and 4GB of RAM, for how long can I keep my CPU?

I would put more RAM in it and upgrade to windows 7 if you can. I would leave the CPU alone for now, considering a core2quad wouldn't do you much good at this point, and upgrade the GPU down the road if you still have that mobo.

New GPU and maybe more RAM (especially considering you're using Vista).

I have 2gb or ram and it hasn't hurt any performance as I can tell. It is always good to add another stick though. I would stick with the C2D if you are happy with how it performs. If things have been slowing down, maybe do a fresh install. Oh also If you really wanted, get a new video card but right now, the more you wait, the lower the prices of today's card will drop down the road so if you can, just wait and pick a nice 5850 later.

The choice is clear: RAM.

Don't get more RAM unless you have a 64 bit OS

I have 64-bit Vista - So 4GB ram would be effecient. 6GB ram overkill?

So far I'm thinking to get also get a better cpu cooler than the stock one so I can squeeze a little more out of the dual core e8400 3.0ghz.

I'll probaly get a 750w+ PSU and Windows 7 and then as people are saying get a 5850 or 5870 later down the road.

Get a new (or another) GPU and at least 2gb. more RAM if you've got money left over. GTA 4 is kind of hopeless though. That game is way to heavy on the CPU, but even if you upgrade it, it still won't run that well. Ohh, and I would get the ARMA2 OA expansion. It runs a lot better than ARMA 2 on higher settings and looks great, among all the other improvements.
