Hey everyone,

I just purchased a new Toshiba laptop, which I am loving so far and I was just curious to see how I can go about increasing download speeds. I usually range from 200 kbps to up to 480 kbps. Is that good? I am a novice at these things and I'd like to know if that's a good as it gets or is there a way to increase speed?

I've heard of TCPOtimizer but I am not really sure how to use it or what kind of settings to use. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

I dont know. Whats the advertised speed from your internet service provider? If you're not getting your advertised speeds, then it might be due to signal degredation from your wireless. Standing closer to the wireless router can help. Your best bet? get a Cat-5e cable and be wired when using the internet. Wireless will never be as fast as wired.

Yes I've heard that too about having an ethernet cable directly connected, I never did try it out to see for myself but I think I might. I took a speed test and average download speed is about 11mbps or something like that. I am about 6ft away from the router but I will try directly connecting to the laptop.

indeed run speedtest see what its rated for..

the url for that is speedtest.net

also close any torrenting or file sharing programs off the taskbar (down by your clock) also end their process in task manager (ctrl+ alt+ delete once then once your in task manager go to processes and kill it there)

close anyhting that you feel is connected to the internet and if absolutely necissary THEN start shutting off security suite firewalls and turning them off altogeather.

These are the results of the speedtest

Doesn't look too bad. Using a wired connection does seem to help out. Thanks for all the help guys
