Ok,
I'm getting a brand new E6600 Core 2 duo 2.4, but what does that mean specification-wise? Take Supreme Commander, recommended system requirement is a 3.0 ghz intel, and I know that means a pentium. How do you switch the core 2 duo's power over to sort of reason out the requirements?

so does that mean if I have the core 2 duo in my lappy overclocked to 3.16 it'll actually be like ~6.3 GHz? thats insane!

if you have 2.4 ghz, you have 2.4 ghz, doesnt matter if its dualcore, having dual core might make it seem like its 2.5 ghz but thats about it. but it doesnt matter, bc its dual core, that means it can do 2.4 ghz twice as fast, but that doesnt mean its doing 2.4ghz two times. understand? kind of confusing i know? its bc of the architecture of these dual cores, its amazing, so amazing that ghza doesnt matter. and to answer youre question, no, its only 2.4 ghz, and yes itll be find even tho requirements is 3.0ghz.

um...no since c2d and for example, p4, doesnt use the same architecture and therefore a 2.4ghz c2d is way better than a 2.4ghz p4.

To op : dont worry, ur e6600 will be more than enough for quite some time.

i said that if you knew how to read. my e6300 at 1.86 ghz is like 10 times as good as a 4.0ghz p4 cpu, i know that, and i said that in a way. in no way did i say a p4 single core could out do a dual core. read sucka!

Actually the 4.0 ghz p4 is stronger, my old p4 @ 4.1 ghz prescott ran similar or slightly owrse or better, than an e6300 X-D.

really? but probably not a better core 2 duo right? a top of line dual core would be better than the top of line single core, no matter what the frequency, correct?

maybe the e6300, i was only giving an example to answer his question. thats really weird tho...

A single core on a 2 ghz Core 2 Duo chip is better than a 3 ghz P4.

Mabye even more than that. It's over double the performance of a P4 so perhaps 6Ghz.

Of course. The Core 2 Duo simply owns multi-threaded applications, and the P4 can't get anywhere near it in performance.

Yeah, cause you are seeing core 2's at speeds over 3ghz which is amazing.

I'd say it's about the performance of a 6.895 GHz P4.

...overclocked of course. I wonder if Intel will release a Core 2 Duo with a clock speed above 3Ghz ?

Whoever said it's like a p4 at 5 ghz is out of their mind. A p4 is a terrible proc no matter what you clock it to. same with pentium d. A c2d at 2.4 is awesome. And they overclock great. I recommend the gigabyte core 2 duo mobo that costs like $100 on newegg, don't know the exact name, but it has an s3 in the name. the newer model is a bit more durable but costs $20 more.

You don't know what you are talking about...

A P4 is just fine at high clock speeds, same as Pd.
