Hey everyone. I'm a Mac user so I don't know a thing when it comes to what parts to get for a PC. I'm wanting to game on one as the title states and I'm looking at spending around $900-$1200 max. I'm wanting to play WoW: Cataclysm on ultra settings when it drops and then any other game that may catch my eye. Hope that helps for what parts to get! Thanks in advance for any help! EDIT: Also, I live in Canada so it would be cool if I could get the items here. :P

So is that $1200 USD? or CND? Also, does this need to include monitor/keyboard/mouse?

Ask in System Wars. People there know how to build a high end PC for $400.

I just saved you a ton of cash.

You are welcome.

That isn't possible, a 5870 is 400.

actually around 400 is doable. In about 5 mins on newegg I came up with this: It wouldn't be the fastest, but it would do the job nicely. Surely one could cut its cost even further so that the OS fits in there too, if one isn't available from old computer. Its a quad-core, with 4gb of ram and a pretty decent GPU. Back to OP's question, the rig in my sig is about $900, and it does the job very well, there isn't a game I can't run on high or max, including Crysis, GTA4, Bad COmpany 2 ran really well, Metro looks incredible.

A quick run on NCIX.com got me this. I'm in Retail and I do this for a good fraction of my day. This is one of my more budget gamer oriented quotations

AMD Athlon II x4 635-Regular 113.28 (higher clock speed than the 620, also a bit newer, more stock available for possible replacements if need be)

Asus M4A77TD- Regular 88.61 (A nice mid range board)

Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1600-Sale 97.99

XFX HD Radeon 5770-Sale 164.99 (way better than a 4850)

Caviar Black 1tb-Regular 104.42 (Faster than the Samsung Spinpoint.)

Samsung DVD Writer - Sale 19.99 (won't let me link this, just check the sales page.)

Antec Three hundred-Sale (usually on sale) 56.99 (A really nice case, plain, simple and effective.)

Silverstone 500Watt Power Supply-Regular 65.74 (500 watts is more than enough here, especially since you won't overclock)

Window 7 Home Premium 64 Bit-Regular 123.99

Under 840 dollars before taxes.

This is roughly what I build people. Been buying from these guys for years.

That right there would run you around $800ish (give or take). Don't forget you need a copy of Windows ($100 - OEM copy), a DVD burner ($25), a hard drive ($80ish - 1TB). In the end, around a grand on that build. It would do pretty good for playing pretty much anything out there. If you want a Nvidia card over ATI, pick up a single GTX 470.

Ugh... i'm with Creigz. Some of the other builds I see in here, for shame on some of you thinking you can get a decently priced computer from Newegg. Like Creigz, I shop at NCIX because it offers competitive pricing in CAD for us (as well as other benefits if you look up what they offer) and you don't need to go to Newegg which is a ripoff most of the time.

NCIX.com is great, depending where you live though you should also check out Canadacomputers.com. I've bought numerous things from them (mostly because their store is 30 minutes away) but if you price compare I find Canadacomputers.com is cheaper than NCIX...

NCIX though definitely has a better selection of parts.
