They wouldn't work on Half-Life 3 without securing its trademark name. They're probably in the planning process. An announcement? Maybe in a year when some progress has been made.

Probably means they are just now starting production on the game. We won't see it until 2015 or 2016 if that is the case.

They trademarked the lambda logo in July. Funny how nobody saw it until now.

Cool beans, I'm guessing they're in the planning phase now. I won't really be expecting any type of annoucement or showcase until a couple years.

Dont be Naive, they've been working on this game for quite a while. However, coding a brand new engine as well as making that engine go hand and hand with SteamOS and Steambox requires a lot of work.  You can expect  Source 2 to the be the primary focus here to license out for SteamOS/SteamBox

Makes sense.

I'm surprised they only just now trademarked the name. I would have thought they'd have trademarked it years ago, long before even beginning work on the game, just to be safe.

Yes, speculating upon logic and common sense is using your imagination, while complete guesses aren't. Most things are trademarked before serious development for good reason.
