Stay away from USB headphones, they're very limiting. USB headphones have they're own soundcard built in and so bypass your system's sound card, though of ourse they're usually very cheap and made to be compact not high quality. Grados SR-60s can be found for $80, pair them with a Zalman clip on mic and you've got a great combination.
